RRB ALP GK Questions 2026

General Science is the knowledge section of RRB ALP under CEN 01/2026. The CEN defines it as Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of Class 10 level in CBT-1, and CBT-2 Part A adds Basic Science and Engineering: units and measurements, mass, weight and density, work, power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, engineering drawing, occupational safety and health, environment education and IT literacy. The notes on this page are GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB ALP, written as short facts, formulas and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Physics notes cover motion, force, gravitation, work and energy, sound, light, electricity and magnetism; Chemistry notes cover matter, atoms and molecules, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds and the periodic table; Life Sciences notes cover the cell, life processes, control and coordination, reproduction, heredity, diseases and the environment. Topics that appear in both CBT-1 General Science and CBT-2 Basic Science and Engineering, such as units, energy, heat and electricity, are marked so that one reading serves two papers. Each note ends with the previous-year questions asked on it, and the quizzes on this site draw from the same topics, so a weak quiz score points back to the note to reread.

Which is NOT a green house gas in earth's atmosphere?

  1. A.Ozone
  2. B.Sulphur dioxide
  3. C.Carbon dioxide
  4. D.Methane
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Sulphur dioxide

Sulphur dioxide is an air pollutant but it is not counted among the greenhouse gases. A greenhouse gas is one that lets sunlight through but absorbs the long wave infrared radiation the earth sends back, so it warms the lower atmosphere.

Q208.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · 24 May 2019, Shift 3Easy

What did Archimedes determine after discovering the Archimedes principle?

  1. A.Purity of milk
  2. B.Purity of gold in the king's crown
  3. C.Design concept of ship
  4. D.Design concept of submarine
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Purity of gold in the king's crown

Archimedes used his principle to test whether the crown of King Hiero II of Syracuse was pure gold. The principle says that a body immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces.

Q209.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · 25 May 2019, Shift 1Easy

What happens with the force of gravitation between two objects when the mass of one object is doubled?

  1. A.The force of gravitation is four times
  2. B.The force of gravitation is doubled
  3. C.The force of gravitation is tripled
  4. D.The force of gravitation is halved
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The force of gravitation is doubled

Gravitational force is directly proportional to each mass, so doubling one mass doubles the force. Newton law of universal gravitation states that the force between two bodies is F equal to G m1 m2 divided by r squared.

Q210.Science & TechnologyHard

Which of these was NOT named by the minister as an initiative building capability in emerging scientific fields?

  1. A.Deep Ocean Mission
  2. B.Quantum Mission
  3. C.Anusandhan National Research Foundation
  4. D.National Supercomputing Mission
Show answer
Correct answer: D. National Supercomputing Mission

The initiatives he cited as creating capability in emerging fields were the Deep Ocean Mission, the Quantum Mission, artificial intelligence, cyber security and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, so options A, B and C all appear on that list.

Q211.Science & TechnologyMedium

What is India's target for nuclear energy capacity, as mentioned by the minister?

  1. A.50 GW by 2040
  2. B.75 GW by 2035
  3. C.100 GW by 2047
  4. D.200 GW by 2050
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 100 GW by 2047

The minister referred to this target together with the opening of the nuclear sector to private participation, and described nuclear power as an important clean-energy source for future requirements, among them the demand created by artificial intelligence and data centres.

Q212.Science & TechnologyMedium

According to Dr Jitendra Singh, what is the present size of India's space economy?

  1. A.About USD 2 billion
  2. B.About USD 9 billion
  3. C.About USD 24 billion
  4. D.About USD 45 billion
Show answer
Correct answer: B. About USD 9 billion

The minister described this as the current size of the space economy and said it could reach USD 45 to 46 billion over the next 8 to 10 years if the present momentum continues, crediting the expansion to the opening of the sector and the entry of a wider set…

Q213.General ScienceHard

Which statement about a semiconductor that has been doped is correct?

  1. A.It acquires a net negative charge if doped n-type
  2. B.It acquires a net positive charge if doped p-type
  3. C.It remains electrically neutral in both cases
  4. D.Its conductivity falls below that of the pure crystal
Show answer
Correct answer: C. It remains electrically neutral in both cases

Doping replaces a few host atoms with impurity atoms, and each impurity atom brings its own nucleus along with its electrons, so the total positive and negative charge in the crystal stays balanced.

Q214.General ScienceMedium

The transistor was invented in 1947 at Bell Laboratories by:

  1. A.Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce
  2. B.J. J. Thomson and Ernest Rutherford

Q218.General ScienceMedium

Which diode is operated in the reverse breakdown region and is used as a voltage regulator?

  1. A.Light emitting diode
  2. B.Photodiode
  3. C.Zener diode
  4. D.Solar cell
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Zener diode

A Zener diode is heavily doped so that breakdown occurs at a low and sharply defined reverse voltage. Beyond that point the voltage across it stays almost constant even when the current through it changes a great deal, which is precisely the property a voltage regulator needs.
