RRB ALP GK Questions 2026

General Science is the knowledge section of RRB ALP under CEN 01/2026. The CEN defines it as Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of Class 10 level in CBT-1, and CBT-2 Part A adds Basic Science and Engineering: units and measurements, mass, weight and density, work, power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, engineering drawing, occupational safety and health, environment education and IT literacy. The notes on this page are GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB ALP, written as short facts, formulas and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Physics notes cover motion, force, gravitation, work and energy, sound, light, electricity and magnetism; Chemistry notes cover matter, atoms and molecules, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds and the periodic table; Life Sciences notes cover the cell, life processes, control and coordination, reproduction, heredity, diseases and the environment. Topics that appear in both CBT-1 General Science and CBT-2 Basic Science and Engineering, such as units, energy, heat and electricity, are marked so that one reading serves two papers. Each note ends with the previous-year questions asked on it, and the quizzes on this site draw from the same topics, so a weak quiz score points back to the note to reread.

RRB ALP GK Questions with Answers

Q601.General ScienceAsked in: SSC CHSL · 14 Aug 2023, Shift 2Medium

The dimensions of force are:

  1. A.[M⁰ L³ T⁰]
  2. B.[M L⁻³ T⁰]
  3. C.[M⁰ L T⁻¹]
  4. D.[M L T⁻²]
Show answer
Correct answer: D. [M L T⁻²]

Newton's second law gives force = mass × acceleration. Mass has the dimension [M], and acceleration is velocity divided by time, that is [L T⁻¹] ÷ [T] = [L T⁻²].

Q602.General ScienceAsked in: RRB NTPC · 16 Jun 2022, Shift 1 (CBT 2, Level 2)Medium

Water has the highest density at nearly ______ Kelvin.

  1. A.0
  2. B.227
  3. C.277
  4. D.273
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 277

Water is densest at about 4 degrees Celsius, and 4 plus 273 gives roughly 277 kelvin. Most liquids keep shrinking as they cool, but water behaves oddly: below 4 degrees Celsius it starts to expand again because its molecules begin forming the open, hexagonal pattern of ice.

Which of the following is an element with atomic number 30 as per the modern periodic table?

  1. A.Ni
  2. B.Fe
  3. C.Zn
  4. D.Co
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Zn

Zinc has atomic number 30, meaning every zinc atom has 30 protons in its nucleus. It is the last element of the first transition series in period 4 of the modern periodic table, with the electronic configuration [Ar] 3d10 4s2, and it is placed in group 12.

Beriberi is a disease caused due to deficiency of ________

  1. A.vitamin B1
  2. B.vitamin A
  3. C.vitamin C
  4. D.vitamin D
Show answer
Correct answer: A. vitamin B1

Beriberi is caused by a lack of thiamine, which is vitamin B1. Thiamine helps the body turn carbohydrates into energy and keeps nerves and the heart working, so its shortage weakens muscles and nerves (dry beriberi) or causes swelling and heart failure (wet beriberi).

Q609.EconomyMedium

How much freight did Indian Railways load in August 2026?

  1. A.130.9 million tonnes
  2. B.137.9 million tonnes
  3. C.147.9 million tonnes
  4. D.127.3 million tonnes
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 137.9 million tonnes

Indian Railways loaded that quantity during August 2026 and recorded a year-on-year growth of 5.4 per cent. Freight revenue in the same month rose by 6.27 per cent over the corresponding month of the previous year, which shows that the freight business strengthened in value as well as in volume.

Q610.NationalMedium

Which work was sanctioned at a cost of ₹233 crore?

  1. A.Kavach 4.0 in Moradabad Division
  2. B.Electronic Interlocking at 21 stations of Samastipur Division
  3. C.The Adra-Joychandipahar bypass line
  4. D.Bhavnagar Para yard remodelling
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Electronic Interlocking at 21 stations of Samastipur Division

The work replaces existing panel interlocking with Electronic Interlocking, which is computer-based signalling in place of ageing relay-based systems, giving higher reliability, quicker fault diagnosis, easier maintenance and greater operational flexibility, besides supporting the roll-out of Kavach.

Q612.NationalEasy

Kavach is best described as which kind of system?

  1. A.An indigenous Automatic Train Protection system
  2. B.A ticketing and reservation platform
  3. C.A satellite-based cargo tracking service
  4. D.A rolling stock maintenance depot
Show answer
Correct answer: A. An indigenous Automatic Train Protection system

The release sets out four things it does, and each of them is worth remembering separately because questions are framed on them.
