RRB ALP GK Questions 2026

General Science is the knowledge section of RRB ALP under CEN 01/2026. The CEN defines it as Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of Class 10 level in CBT-1, and CBT-2 Part A adds Basic Science and Engineering: units and measurements, mass, weight and density, work, power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, engineering drawing, occupational safety and health, environment education and IT literacy. The notes on this page are GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB ALP, written as short facts, formulas and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Physics notes cover motion, force, gravitation, work and energy, sound, light, electricity and magnetism; Chemistry notes cover matter, atoms and molecules, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds and the periodic table; Life Sciences notes cover the cell, life processes, control and coordination, reproduction, heredity, diseases and the environment. Topics that appear in both CBT-1 General Science and CBT-2 Basic Science and Engineering, such as units, energy, heat and electricity, are marked so that one reading serves two papers. Each note ends with the previous-year questions asked on it, and the quizzes on this site draw from the same topics, so a weak quiz score points back to the note to reread.

RRB ALP GK Questions with Answers

Q224.Computer AwarenessEasy

The Unified Payments Interface, widely used for payments from mobile phones in India, is operated by

  1. A.the Securities and Exchange Board of India
  2. B.the National Payments Corporation of India
  3. C.the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
  4. D.the Unique Identification Authority of India
Show answer
Correct answer: B. the National Payments Corporation of India

UPI was launched by NPCI in 2016 as a system that lets a user link several bank accounts to one mobile application and transfer money instantly using a virtual payment address or a QR code, without sharing account numbers.

Q225.Computer AwarenessMedium

NavIC, the satellite navigation system developed by India, is an abbreviation of

  1. A.Navigation with Indian Constellation
  2. B.National Vehicle Information Centre
  3. C.Navigation Indian Communication
  4. D.National Integrated Coordination
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Navigation with Indian Constellation

NavIC is the operational name of the system formally called the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, built by ISRO so that the country would not depend on a foreign constellation for positioning in a crisis.

Q229.Computer AwarenessEasy

GSM, the standard on which second generation mobile networks were built, stands for

  1. A.General Switching Mode
  2. B.Global System for Mobile Communications
  3. C.Generic Signal Modulation
  4. D.Global Satellite Messaging
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Global System for Mobile Communications

GSM is the European-born digital standard that replaced the analogue first generation networks; it introduced the removable SIM card, digital encryption of the radio link, international roaming and the short message service, on which a plain text message is limited to one hundred and sixty characters.

Q232.Computer AwarenessEasy

In a mobile phone, SIM stands for

  1. A.Subscriber Identity Module
  2. B.Single Identity Module
  3. C.Subscriber Internet Module
  4. D.Secure Identity Memory
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Subscriber Identity Module

The SIM is a small smart card issued by the operator that stores the subscriber identity, the authentication keys used to prove that identity to the network, and a limited amount of contact and message data.

Q235.General ScienceHard

According to Graham s law, the rate of diffusion of a gas is

  1. A.directly proportional to its molar mass
  2. B.inversely proportional to its molar mass
  3. C.inversely proportional to the square root of its molar mass
  4. D.independent of its molar mass
Show answer
Correct answer: C. inversely proportional to the square root of its molar mass

Thomas Graham found in 1833 that a light gas spreads through a porous partition faster than a heavy one, and that the rates of two gases are in the inverse ratio of the square roots of their densities, and therefore of their molar masses.

Q236.General ScienceEasy

Which one of the following pairs is correctly matched?

  1. A.Dry ice - solid nitrogen
  2. B.Dry ice - solid carbon dioxide
  3. C.Dry ice - solid ammonia
  4. D.Dry ice - frozen distilled water
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Dry ice - solid carbon dioxide

At ordinary atmospheric pressure carbon dioxide has no liquid stage: the solid passes straight into vapour at about minus 78.5 degrees Celsius.

Q237.General ScienceHard

What happens to the viscosity of a liquid and that of a gas when the temperature is raised?

  1. A.Both increase
  2. B.Both decrease
  3. C.That of the liquid decreases and that of the gas increases
  4. D.That of the liquid increases and that of the gas decreases
Show answer
Correct answer: C. That of the liquid decreases and that of the gas increases

In a liquid the resistance to flow comes mainly from the attraction between neighbouring molecules. Heating gives the molecules energy to slip past one another, so the attraction matters less and the liquid thins; hot honey and warm engine oil pour far more easily than cold.

Q238.General ScienceMedium

Evaporation of a liquid causes cooling because

  1. A.the liquid absorbs latent heat from its surroundings
  2. B.the liquid gives out latent heat to its surroundings
  3. C.the pressure above the liquid falls
  4. D.the liquid expands as it evaporates
Show answer
Correct answer: A. the liquid absorbs latent heat from its surroundings

Evaporation is a surface phenomenon in which the fastest-moving molecules of a liquid break free. Doing so needs the latent heat of vaporisation, and that energy is drawn from the liquid left behind and from whatever the liquid touches, so both grow cooler.
