Special Campaign 6: MHA Targets Pendency and Swachhata
The Ministry of Home Affairs will join DARPG's Special Campaign 6, whose preparation phase runs to 30 September 2026 and implementation from 2 to 31 October 2026.

Why in News
On 23 September 2026 the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that it is geared up to take part in Special Campaign 6, being organised by DARPG, and listed what it had achieved on cleanliness and pendency between November 2025 and August 2026.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has said it is ready to take a full part in Special Campaign 6, the annual cleanliness and pendency drive run by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). The campaign is built in two parts.
The two phases
- Preparation phase: 15 September to 30 September 2026.
- Implementation phase: 2 October to 31 October 2026.
What the Ministry will work on
The drive draws on the Prime Minister's idea of making Swachhata a permanent habit of government and cutting down what is left pending. Under the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, particular attention is to go to field and outstation offices, because those are the ones where the public actually walks in.
Within the Ministry the campaign is aimed at workplaces that are sustainable and easier on the environment, and at the same time at clearing several categories of pending matters: references from Members of Parliament, references from State Governments, Parliament Assurances, inter-ministerial consultations, public grievances and appeals, and better management of records. Implementation is being watched at the highest level in the Ministry, and the Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organizations have been briefed on it.
What the last round achieved
Between November 2025 and August 2026, the Ministry and its field and outstation offices reported:
| Swachhata campaigns held | 761 |
| References from Members of Parliament disposed of | 299 |
| References from State Governments disposed of | 336 |
| References from the PMO disposed of | 7 |
| Public grievances disposed of | 52,050 |
| Public grievance appeals disposed of | 7,410 |
| Office space freed | 1,02,084 sq ft |
How the data is collected
To keep the numbers accurate, the Ministry uses an intra-Ministry portal on which every Division, along with the Union Territories and Delhi Police, uploads its campaign data. That has made coordination across divisions and offices easier and has let the Ministry consolidate figures on time rather than chasing them office by office.

Practice Questions
Which department organises the Special Campaign in which the Ministry of Home Affairs is taking part?
- A.Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances
- B.Department of Personnel and Training
- C.Cabinet Secretariat
- D.Ministry of Panchayati Raj
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances
Explanation
The correct answer is the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, usually written as DARPG, which the release names as the organiser of the drive. The Ministry of Home Affairs is a participant, not the organiser, and its role is to run the campaign within its own divisions, attached offices and field formations. The Department of Personnel and Training is wrong; although it also deals with administration, the release does not connect it with this campaign. The Cabinet Secretariat is wrong as well, since monitoring inside the Ministry is described as happening at its own highest level rather than through that office. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is wrong because the campaign described here runs across central government offices and their field units, not local bodies. Aspirants should hold the organiser, the participating ministry and the two phase dates together, since questions about this campaign usually test one of those three.
When does the implementation phase of Special Campaign 6 run?
- A.15 September to 30 September 2026
- B.1 October to 15 October 2026
- C.2 October to 31 October 2026
- D.1 November to 30 November 2026
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 2 October to 31 October 2026
Explanation
The correct answer is 2 October to 31 October 2026. The campaign is split in two, and this is the second and longer part, in which the work actually happens across offices. The first option is wrong, and is the commonest error, because those are the dates of the preparation phase that comes before it; candidates who remember only one pair of dates usually give this answer. The second option is wrong because the implementation phase does not begin on the first of the month and does not end in the middle of it. The fourth option is wrong because the drive is completed within October and does not extend into the following month. A useful memory hook is that the implementation phase opens on the second day of October and runs to the last day of that month, so the whole of the month except its first day is covered.
How many public grievances did the Ministry of Home Affairs dispose of between November 2025 and August 2026?
- A.7,410
- B.25,500
- C.52,050
- D.1,02,084
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 52,050
Explanation
The correct answer is 52,050. That is the count of public grievances the Ministry reported as disposed of over the period named in the release, and it is listed alongside the other results of its earlier round of the campaign. The first option is wrong because that figure belongs to the grievance appeals, a separate and much smaller category that is reported next to the grievances themselves and is frequently mixed up with them. The second option is wrong; no such figure appears anywhere in the release. The fourth option is wrong because that number is the office space freed in square feet across the Ministry and the Central Armed Police Forces, not a count of grievances at all, and it is included here precisely because a hurried reader may pick the largest number on the page. Read each figure with its unit before answering.
