Third National CSR Conference NCCSR 2026 Concludes in Delhi

Why in News

The Third National Conference and Exhibition on Corporate Social Responsibility (NCCSR 2026) was inaugurated and concluded, with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and IICA calling for stronger Board governance, convergence and outcome-oriented CSR for Viksit Bharat.

The Third National Conference and Exhibition on Corporate Social Responsibility (NCCSR 2026) has concluded at The Ashok, New Delhi. The two-day meeting was held on 6 and 7 October 2026 by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), through its School of Business Environment, under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Its theme was ‘Re-envisioning the Spirit of CSR for Viksit Bharat: From Compliance to Commitment’, and it brought in more than 600 senior representatives of government, public and private enterprises, international organisations, academia and civil society.

Who opened it, and what was released

Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines, inaugurated the conference. He held that economic progress carries its full meaning only when the gains show up as stronger communities, wider opportunity and sturdier regions, and that in resource-bearing areas growth and social development cannot be treated as separate goals. He released the Comprehensive CSR Framework for Indian Coal Companies, drawn up to give the coal sector a structured, need-based direction for its CSR work. The inaugural session also saw the release of the India CSR Factbook 2024-25.

Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, delivered the inaugural address and asked stakeholders to look past the annual obligation. She described India’s statutory CSR design as one that ties legal duty to company-level responsibility, Board oversight, public disclosure and impact assessment. Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO of IICA, and Prof. Garima Dadhich, Head of the School of Business Environment, IICA, also spoke, and Ms. Shoko Ishikawa, UN Women Country Representative in India, attended.

Valedictory session

Shri Ajit Seth, former Cabinet Secretary, gave the valedictory address on ‘From Compliance to Commitment’. He argued that CSR should be judged by the change it makes to people’s lives rather than by the money spent, warned against tokenism, and asked companies to correct the geographical imbalance in CSR spending by turning to underserved districts. Technology, he said, can improve visibility and accountability but cannot replace field knowledge and administrative judgement; CSR, in his words, is a strategic instrument for India’s growth and not merely a statutory obligation under Viksit Bharat @2047. He released the Compendium of CSR Best Practices 2025, which gathers the practices shown by exhibitors at the previous edition.

Sessions and recommendations

  • A fireside chat on the Social Stock Exchange, with Shri Shailesh K. Pathak, Senior Advisor (Policy), National Stock Exchange.
  • Panels on Board governance in CSR, sector-based approaches aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, and the use of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools in CSR.
  • A panel on the CSR Exchange portal, chaired by Shri Anil Swarup, which pressed for data integration and automated vetting of implementing organisations.
  • An expert dialogue on care work and women’s economic empowerment, with SEWA Bharat, Grant Thornton and UN Women.
  • A dialogue on CSR and the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), where the Ministry invited firms to use the scheme to close the gap between skills and jobs.

The panel on decentralising CSR recommended universal indicators for assessing CSR projects so that outcomes can be compared across regions and sectors, applied with regard to local circumstances and district-level evidence.

Practice Questions

Q1.Summits & ConferencesMedium

Which institute organised the Third National Conference and Exhibition on Corporate Social Responsibility (NCCSR 2026)?

  1. A.Indian Institute of Public Administration
  2. B.Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs
  3. C.National Institute of Financial Management
  4. D.Institute of Company Secretaries of India
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs

Explanation

The correct answer is the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. NCCSR 2026 was organised by IICA, specifically by its School of Business Environment, under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and was held at The Ashok in New Delhi on 6 and 7 October 2026. Its Director General and CEO, Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, and Prof. Garima Dadhich, who heads the School of Business Environment, both addressed the conference, and the institute also prepared the sector-specific CSR frameworks for the Ministry of Coal and Coal India Limited that the panels discussed. Options A, C and D name the Indian Institute of Public Administration, the National Institute of Financial Management and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, all real bodies working in public administration, finance and corporate practice, but none of them hosted this conference. Candidates should pair IICA with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs when a CSR question appears.

Q2.Summits & ConferencesHard

Who inaugurated NCCSR 2026 and released the Comprehensive CSR Framework for Indian Coal Companies?

  1. A.Ajit Seth, former Cabinet Secretary
  2. B.Pallavi Jain Govil, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs
  3. C.Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines
  4. D.Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO, IICA
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines

Explanation

The correct answer is Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines. He inaugurated the conference, delivered the keynote address and released the Comprehensive CSR Framework for Indian Coal Companies, a document meant to give the coal sector a structured and need-based direction for its CSR spending. He said that economic progress acquires its fullest meaning when its benefits appear as stronger communities, wider opportunity and more resilient regions. Option A is wrong because Ajit Seth delivered the valedictory address on the second day and released the Compendium of CSR Best Practices 2025. Option B is wrong because Pallavi Jain Govil gave the inaugural address and released the India CSR Factbook 2024-25. Option D is wrong because the Director General of IICA delivered the welcome address. All four figures appear in the same event, so the task is to match each name to the right act.

Q3.Summits & ConferencesMedium

What was the theme of NCCSR 2026?

  1. A.‘CSR for Sustainable Development Goals’
  2. B.‘Re-envisioning the Spirit of CSR for Viksit Bharat: From Compliance to Commitment’
  3. C.‘Responsible Business for a Self-Reliant India’
  4. D.‘From Boardrooms to Villages: The CSR Journey’
Show answer
Correct answer: B. ‘Re-envisioning the Spirit of CSR for Viksit Bharat: From Compliance to Commitment’

Explanation

The correct answer is ‘Re-envisioning the Spirit of CSR for Viksit Bharat: From Compliance to Commitment’. The theme set the direction of both days: speakers were asked to treat CSR as a sustained commitment rather than an annual compliance exercise, and the valedictory session carried the shorter title ‘From Compliance to Commitment’. Option A is wrong, though one panel did examine sector-based approaches aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and recommended better alignment of CSR reporting with them. Options C and D are invented slogans that read plausibly but were not used. Candidates should also retain the related numbers and names for this event: more than 600 senior representatives attended, the venue was The Ashok in New Delhi, the dates were 6 and 7 October 2026, and three documents were released across the two days.

Q4.Summits & ConferencesMedium

Which of these was discussed in a fireside chat at NCCSR 2026 with a Senior Advisor of the National Stock Exchange?

  1. A.Social Stock Exchange
  2. B.Sovereign Green Bonds
  3. C.Municipal Bond Market
  4. D.Alternative Investment Funds
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Social Stock Exchange

Explanation

The correct answer is the Social Stock Exchange. The inaugural session was followed by a fireside chat titled ‘Social Stock Exchange: Purpose, Capital and Impact’, featuring Shri Shailesh K. Pathak, Senior Advisor for Policy at the National Stock Exchange, along with Prof. Garima Dadhich of IICA. The discussion looked at how the Social Stock Exchange can link social purpose with capital, and why credible impact measurement, transparency and institutional trust matter for financing the social sector. Options B, C and D name sovereign green bonds, the municipal bond market and alternative investment funds, which are genuine instruments in Indian finance but were not the subject of this session. Other sessions at the conference covered Board governance in CSR, the CSR Exchange portal, Artificial Intelligence in CSR, care work and women’s economic empowerment, and the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme.
