RRB Group D GK Questions 2026

Static GK is not a separate section in RRB Group D, but it decides most of the paper's recall marks. General Science is 25 questions of Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard (CBSE) level as per CEN 09/2025, and the 20 General Awareness questions lean on the standing facts behind the news: the sport, the award, the institution, the state, the river or the scientist an event touches. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB Group D. The General Science notes go topic by topic through motion and force, work, energy and power, gravitation, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism, atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, and carbon compounds, and the Life Sciences notes cover cells, the human body, nutrition, diseases, plants and genetics. The static GK notes cover Indian Railways zones and facts, national symbols, first and largest in India and the world, awards and honours, important days, books and authors, sports GK, art and culture, and the basics of Indian Polity, Geography, History and the Economy. Each note is short facts and tables that can be revised in one sitting. Read a note, then solve its quiz and the previous-year questions on this site to check what stayed.

RRB Group D GK Questions with Answers

Q321.General ScienceEasy

The Krebs cycle takes place in which part of the cell?

  1. A.Ribosome
  2. B.Mitochondrial matrix
  3. C.Golgi apparatus
  4. D.Nucleus
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Mitochondrial matrix

Pyruvic acid formed in glycolysis enters the mitochondrion, is converted to acetyl coenzyme A and is oxidised completely in the matrix through the cycle named after Hans Krebs, who received the Nobel Prize for the discovery; the cycle releases carbon dioxide and reduced coenzymes.

Q322.General ScienceEasy

Glycolysis, the first step in the breakdown of glucose, takes place in which part of the cell?

  1. A.Cytoplasm
  2. B.Mitochondrial matrix
  3. C.Inner mitochondrial membrane
  4. D.Chloroplast stroma
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Cytoplasm

Glycolysis, also called the Embden Meyerhof Parnas pathway, splits one molecule of glucose into two molecules of pyruvic acid in the cytoplasm, needs no oxygen and gives a net gain of two ATP along with two molecules of reduced NAD.

Q324.General ScienceMedium

The opening of stomata is brought about by the movement of which ion into the guard cells?

  1. A.Sodium
  2. B.Calcium
  3. C.Potassium
  4. D.Magnesium
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Potassium

In light, potassium ions are actively pumped into the guard cells, their solute concentration rises, water enters by osmosis, the cells swell and because their inner walls are thicker they bend apart, opening the pore; when potassium leaves, the cells lose water and the pore closes.

Q326.General ScienceEasy

The loss of water in liquid form from the margins of leaves through special pores is called

  1. A.transpiration
  2. B.guttation
  3. C.bleeding
  4. D.imbibition
Show answer
Correct answer: B. guttation

It occurs through pores called hydathodes at the leaf margin or tip, usually in the early morning when the soil is moist, the air is humid and transpiration is low, so root pressure forces out drops of water with dissolved salts; Colocasia, grasses and tomato show it well.

Q327.General ScienceMedium

The ascent of sap to the top of a tall tree is explained mainly by which force?

  1. A.Root pressure
  2. B.Capillarity alone
  3. C.Transpiration pull under the cohesion tension theory
  4. D.Active transport by xylem vessels
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Transpiration pull under the cohesion tension theory

Dixon and Joly explained that water molecules cling to one another by cohesion and to the xylem walls by adhesion, forming an unbroken column; evaporation from the leaf surface creates a suction at the top that pulls this column upward.

Q331.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2023, GATEasy

Copper sulphate crystals available in the market are blue coloured crystals. By careful heating, they turn to white colour. Which one of the following is responsible for the blue colour?

  1. A.Oxygen
  2. B.Nitrogen
  3. C.Water
  4. D.Hydrogen
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Water

The blue colour comes from water of crystallisation: blue vitriol is CuSO4·5H2O, and heating drives off these five water molecules to leave white anhydrous copper sulphate.

For Aluminium (Al) (atomic number : 13, mass number: 27), which one among the following statements is NOT correct ?

  1. A.Number of electrons present in Al is 13
  2. B.Number of protons present in Al is 13
  3. C.Number of neutrons present in Al is 14
  4. D.The valency of Al is 2
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The valency of Al is 2

This is false: aluminium has three electrons in its outer shell and loses all three, so its valency is 3.

Cambium is an example of

  1. A.Lateral meristem
  2. B.Apical meristem
  3. C.Intercalary meristem
  4. D.Permanent tissue
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Lateral meristem

Cambium lies along the sides of stems and roots and its dividing cells increase their thickness, which is the work of a lateral meristem.
