RRB ALP GK Questions 2026

General Science is the knowledge section of RRB ALP under CEN 01/2026. The CEN defines it as Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of Class 10 level in CBT-1, and CBT-2 Part A adds Basic Science and Engineering: units and measurements, mass, weight and density, work, power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, engineering drawing, occupational safety and health, environment education and IT literacy. The notes on this page are GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB ALP, written as short facts, formulas and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Physics notes cover motion, force, gravitation, work and energy, sound, light, electricity and magnetism; Chemistry notes cover matter, atoms and molecules, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds and the periodic table; Life Sciences notes cover the cell, life processes, control and coordination, reproduction, heredity, diseases and the environment. Topics that appear in both CBT-1 General Science and CBT-2 Basic Science and Engineering, such as units, energy, heat and electricity, are marked so that one reading serves two papers. Each note ends with the previous-year questions asked on it, and the quizzes on this site draw from the same topics, so a weak quiz score points back to the note to reread.

RRB ALP GK Questions with Answers

Q541.General ScienceMedium

A coolie walks on a level platform carrying a load on his head. The work done by him against gravity is

  1. A.zero
  2. B.maximum
  3. C.equal to the weight of the load
  4. D.negative
Show answer
Correct answer: A. zero

The force he applies to support the load acts vertically upward, while his displacement along the platform is horizontal, so the angle between force and displacement is ninety degrees and the work done against gravity is zero, however tired he may feel.

Q542.General ScienceMedium

According to the work-energy theorem, the work done by the net force on a body is equal to the change in its

  1. A.momentum
  2. B.kinetic energy
  3. C.potential energy
  4. D.power
Show answer
Correct answer: B. kinetic energy

The work-energy theorem states that the net work done on a body equals the difference between its final and initial kinetic energies, which is why a push that speeds a body up does positive work while friction, which slows it, does negative work.

Q543.General ScienceEasy

In a dynamo, energy is converted from

  1. A.electrical energy into mechanical energy
  2. B.mechanical energy into electrical energy
  3. C.chemical energy into electrical energy
  4. D.light energy into electrical energy
Show answer
Correct answer: B. mechanical energy into electrical energy

A dynamo, also called a generator, is turned by some mechanical agency such as falling water, steam or a bicycle wheel, and the rotation of a coil in a magnetic field produces an electric current by electromagnetic induction.

Q545.General ScienceMedium

The commercial unit of electrical energy is the

  1. A.Joule
  2. B.Watt
  3. C.Kilowatt hour
  4. D.Erg
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Kilowatt hour

Household electricity is billed in these units, and one kilowatt hour, popularly called one unit, is the energy consumed when an appliance of one kilowatt runs for one hour; in SI terms it equals 3.6 million joule.

Q546.General ScienceMedium

One horsepower is approximately equal to

  1. A.100 watt
  2. B.500 watt
  3. C.746 watt
  4. D.1000 watt
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 746 watt

The horsepower is an older unit of power that survives in the rating of motors and vehicles, and one horsepower is taken as about 746 watt, that is roughly three quarters of a kilowatt.

Q547.General ScienceEasy

What is the SI unit of power?

  1. A.Joule
  2. B.Watt
  3. C.Newton second
  4. D.Kilowatt hour
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Watt

Power is the rate of doing work, that is work divided by the time taken, so its unit is the joule per second, which is named the watt after James Watt.

Q550.General ScienceEasy

What is the SI unit of work?

  1. A.Newton
  2. B.Joule
  3. C.Watt
  4. D.Pascal
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Joule

Work is the product of force and displacement, so its unit is the newton metre, which is given the name joule; one joule of work is done when a force of one newton moves a body through one metre in its own direction.

Q551.General ScienceAsked in: Haryana · HSSC Police Constable, 25 Aug 2024Easy

One ampere is equal to ________.

  1. A.one coulomb per second
  2. B.one volt per second
  3. C.one joule per coulomb
  4. D.one second per coulomb of charge
Show answer
Correct answer: A. one coulomb per second

Electric current is the rate of flow of electric charge, written as I = Q/t, so one ampere flows when one coulomb of charge passes through a cross-section of a conductor in one second.
