RRB ALP GK Questions 2026

General Science is the knowledge section of RRB ALP under CEN 01/2026. The CEN defines it as Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of Class 10 level in CBT-1, and CBT-2 Part A adds Basic Science and Engineering: units and measurements, mass, weight and density, work, power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, engineering drawing, occupational safety and health, environment education and IT literacy. The notes on this page are GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB ALP, written as short facts, formulas and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting. Physics notes cover motion, force, gravitation, work and energy, sound, light, electricity and magnetism; Chemistry notes cover matter, atoms and molecules, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds and the periodic table; Life Sciences notes cover the cell, life processes, control and coordination, reproduction, heredity, diseases and the environment. Topics that appear in both CBT-1 General Science and CBT-2 Basic Science and Engineering, such as units, energy, heat and electricity, are marked so that one reading serves two papers. Each note ends with the previous-year questions asked on it, and the quizzes on this site draw from the same topics, so a weak quiz score points back to the note to reread.

RRB ALP GK Questions with Answers

Q524.General ScienceEasy

The upward force experienced by a body immersed in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by it. This statement is known as

  1. A.Pascal's law
  2. B.Archimedes' principle
  3. C.Hooke's law
  4. D.Boyle's law
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Archimedes' principle

It states that a body immersed wholly or partly in a fluid experiences an upward buoyant force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced, so the apparent loss in weight of the body equals the weight of the displaced fluid.

Q529.General ScienceAsked in: SSC CHSL · 10 March 2018, Shift 1Medium

Which among the following has the lowest electron affinity?

  1. A.Fluorine
  2. B.Chlorine
  3. C.Bromine
  4. D.Argon
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Argon

Argon is a noble gas whose outer shell already holds eight electrons, so it has no room to take another one easily; adding an electron would mean starting a new shell, and energy has to be supplied rather than released.

Q530.General ScienceAsked in: RRB Group D · 18 Sept 2018, Shift 2Easy

An object is released from a certain height above the ground. Just at the time it touches the ground, it will possess ______.

  1. A.heat energy
  2. B.chemical energy
  3. C.kinetic energy
  4. D.potential energy
Show answer
Correct answer: C. kinetic energy

At the top the object holds only potential energy; as it falls, that store is steadily converted into kinetic energy, and just as it touches the ground almost all of it is kinetic.

Q531.General ScienceAsked in: RRB Group D · 13 Sept 2022, Shift 1Medium

Consider the magnitudes and directions of the induced potential difference in the following situations: (a) A magnet moving with a speed of 1 m/s with its north pole towards a stationary coil. (b) The same magnet moving with a speed of 1 m/s with its south pole towards the same stationary coil. The induced potential differences are of ______ magnitude(s) and have ______ sign(s) in the above two cases.

  1. A.the same, the same
  2. B.the same, opposite
  3. C.different, opposite
  4. D.different, the same
Show answer
Correct answer: B. the same, opposite

The same magnet moves at the same speed in both cases, so the rate of change of magnetic flux through the coil is equal and the induced potential difference has the same magnitude.

Q537.General ScienceAsked in: RRB NTPC · 15 June 2022, Shift 1Easy

The statement that the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid, whether fully or partially, is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces is related to:

  1. A.Archimedes' Principle
  2. B.Bernoulli's Principle
  3. C.Beer Lambert Law
  4. D.Pascal's Law
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Archimedes' Principle

It states that the upthrust on a body dipped fully or partly in a fluid equals the weight of the fluid the body pushes aside.

Q539.General ScienceHard

One joule is equal to how many ergs?

  1. A.10 thousand
  2. B.1 lakh
  3. C.10 million
  4. D.100 million
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 10 million

The erg is the unit of work in the CGS system, being one dyne of force acting through one centimetre, and since one newton is one lakh dyne and one metre is a hundred centimetre, one joule works out to ten million erg, that is 10 raised to the power…
