Defence GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the General Knowledge marks in the defence exams, and science carries the largest share of it. In NDA & NA, Physics, Chemistry and General Science are about half of the 400 marks of Part B, and History, the freedom movement and Geography are about 20% each, as per the notice. In the CDS (II) 2026 General Knowledge paper, GK24 counted about 37 science questions, about 20 each on Polity and History, about 15 on Geography and environment and about 10 on the Economy; this count is guidance, not an official break-up. The Army's Agniveer CEE gives 15 of its 50 General Duty questions to General Knowledge and 15 to General Science, which covers cells, the human body, plants and animals and common epidemics. Its GK list names history, culture and geography of India and its neighbours, the Constitution, inventions and discoveries, books and authors, and the Indian Armed Forces. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes and GK questions tagged for NDA, CDS and Agniveer, in English and Hindi: General Science, Indian History, Art and Culture, Indian Polity, Geography, Indian Economy and Static GK. Read one topic at a sitting, then solve its questions and the previous-year questions of your exam to see what stayed with you.

Q442.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2017, GATMedium

Which one of the following physical quantities does NOT affect the resistance of a cylindrical resistor ?

  1. A.The current through it
  2. B.Its length
  3. C.The resistivity of the material used in the resistor
  4. D.The area of cross-section of the cylinder
Show answer
Correct answer: A. The current through it

The resistance of a conductor depends on its material and shape, not on how much current flows through it. For a cylindrical conductor, R = ρL/A, where ρ is the resistivity of the material, L the length and A the area of cross-section.

Which one of the following statements regarding Penicillin is correct ?

  1. A.Penicillin resistant bacteria can store this antibiotic in vacuole
  2. B.Penicillin resistant bacteria can degrade this antibiotic by an enzyme called β-lactamase
  3. C.Penicillin resistant bacteria can degrade this antibiotic by an enzyme called lactic acid dehydrogenase
  4. D.Penicillin is not absorbed by bacteria; so most bacteria are resistant
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Penicillin resistant bacteria can degrade this antibiotic by an enzyme called β-lactamase

The enzyme breaks the β-lactam ring that gives penicillin its power. Penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928 from the mould Penicillium notatum.

Q446.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2017, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements is correct with regard to the material of electrical insulators ?

  1. A.They contain no electrons
  2. B.Electrons do not flow easily through them
  3. C.They are crystals
  4. D.They have more number of electrons than the protons on their surface
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Electrons do not flow easily through them

In an insulator the electrons are tightly bound to their atoms, so there are almost no free electrons to carry a current.

Q447.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2017, GATMedium

Zinc is used to protect iron from corrosion because zinc is

  1. A.more electropositive than iron
  2. B.cheaper than iron
  3. C.a bluish white metal
  4. D.a good conductor of heat and electricity
Show answer
Correct answer: A. more electropositive than iron

Zinc gives up electrons more readily than iron, so it corrodes first and keeps the iron safe. Coating iron or steel with a thin layer of zinc is called galvanisation.

Q448.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2019, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements regarding Electrocardiogram is correct ?

  1. A.Electrocardiogram is graphical representation of electrical activity of cornea
  2. B.Electrocardiogram is graphical representation of activity of kidney
  3. C.Electrocardiogram is graphical representation of activity of brain
  4. D.Electrocardiogram is graphical representation of electrical activity of heart
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Electrocardiogram is graphical representation of electrical activity of heart

An ECG records the electrical signals that make the heart muscle contract with each beat. Each heartbeat starts at the sino-atrial (SA) node, the natural pacemaker in the right atrium.

Q449.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2025, GATEasy

We hear an echo due to

  1. A.Refraction of sound waves
  2. B.Reflection of sound waves
  3. C.Diffraction of sound waves
  4. D.Resonance due to sound waves
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Reflection of sound waves

An echo is sound that bounces back from a hard surface such as a wall, cliff or hill and reaches our ears again.

Q451.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2017, GATEasy

Step-up transformers are used for

  1. A.increasing electrical power
  2. B.decreasing electrical power
  3. C.decreasing voltage
  4. D.increasing voltage
Show answer
Correct answer: D. increasing voltage

A step-up transformer raises an alternating voltage, using more turns in its secondary coil than in its primary. A transformer works on electromagnetic induction and only with alternating current.

Q453.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2020, GATMedium

In case of a concave mirror, if an object is kept between principal focus F and pole P of the mirror, then which one of the following statements about the image is NOT correct?

  1. A.The image will be virtual
  2. B.The image will be enlarged or magnified
  3. C.The image will be formed at infinity
  4. D.The image will be erect
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The image will be formed at infinity

For an object between F and P, the image forms behind the mirror, not at infinity. When an object is placed between the pole and the principal focus of a concave mirror, the reflected rays spread out and never meet in front of the mirror.

Q455.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2017, GATMedium

The time period of a simple pendulum made using a thin copper wire of length L is T. Suppose the temperature of the room in which this simple pendulum is placed increases by 30°C, what will be the effect on the time period of the pendulum ?

  1. A.T will increase slightly
  2. B.T will remain the same
  3. C.T will decrease slightly
  4. D.T will become more than 2 times
Show answer
Correct answer: A. T will increase slightly

Heat makes the copper wire expand a little, and a longer pendulum swings a little more slowly. The time period of a simple pendulum is T = 2π√(L/g), so it grows with the square root of the length.

Q456.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2017, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements about energy is correct?

  1. A.Energy can be created as well as destroyed.
  2. B.Energy can be created but not destroyed.
  3. C.Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
  4. D.Energy cannot be created but can be destroyed.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.

This is the law of conservation of energy: energy only changes from one form to another. In any isolated system the total energy stays the same.

Q458.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2025, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements is NOT correct ?

  1. A.An ammeter is always connected in series in the circuit to measure the current
  2. B.A Voltmeter is always connected in parallel in a circuit to measure the voltage
  3. C.A voltmeter has a high resistance and an ammeter has a low resistance
  4. D.A voltmeter has a low resistance and an ammeter has a high resistance
Show answer
Correct answer: D. A voltmeter has a low resistance and an ammeter has a high resistance

This reverses the truth: a voltmeter has a very high resistance and an ammeter a very low one. An ammeter measures the current flowing through a circuit, so it is placed in series and the whole current passes through it.
