The Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2027, run by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports through Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), has completed the first stage of its selection process. The Viksit Bharat Quiz recorded 1,45,26,013 attempts from young people across the country. The programme is meant to give young citizens a structured, merit-based way to put forward ideas and solutions for the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047.

The selection ladder

The Viksit Bharat Challenge moves through five stages: the Viksit Bharat Quiz, then the Viksit Bharat Essay Challenge, then a District PPT Championship, then the State or Union Territory level dialogue, and finally the National VBYLD. The quiz, the first of these, ran on the MY Bharat portal from 17 August to 30 September 2026, with a parallel version hosted on MyGov. It carried 20 questions for a maximum of 20 marks, to be answered within a time limit of 10 minutes.

The essay round

About 5.7 lakh young people who cleared the quiz now go on to the Viksit Bharat Essay Challenge. Each has to submit an essay of 500 words on the MY Bharat portal on the theme set for their region, and essays may be written in any of 23 languages. The window closes on 15 October 2026. Ten regional themes have been laid out, among them future governance and urban transformation, climate security and sustainable mountain development, the demographic dividend and human capital, sustainable industrialisation, Act East and cultural leadership, manufacturing and green growth, tribal leadership and inclusive development, the innovation economy and tourism, technology and future readiness, and the blue economy with global competitiveness.

What follows the essays

The most promising writers will be shortlisted for an in-person presentation round at the district level, which is being held across all districts for the first time. Those selected there move up to the State or Union Territory dialogue. Participants chosen from all States and Union Territories under the ten regional themes will make up the national contingent of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue.
