eSanjeevani Crosses 50 Crore Teleconsultations in India
India's national telemedicine service eSanjeevani has crossed 50 crore teleconsultations, reaching 50,00,92,730 sittings across all 36 States and UTs.

Why in News
On 6 October 2026 the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that eSanjeevani, the national telemedicine service, had gone past 50 crore teleconsultations. The mark was reached on 15 September 2026, with a running total of 50,00,92,730 sittings recorded across all 36 States and Union Territories.
eSanjeevani, the national telemedicine service run under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has gone past 50 crore teleconsultations. The mark was reached on 15 September 2026, when the running count stood at 50,00,92,730 sittings spread over all 36 States and Union Territories. The ministry set out the figures on 6 October 2026 and called the mark a turning point in using digital tools to put a doctor within reach of people who live far from any hospital.
How large the network is
In primary health care this is described as the biggest telemedicine rollout anywhere in the world. It works today through more than 1.42 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir spokes, 19,473 medical hubs and 901 online OPDs, with 2,41,923 health workers signed up on it. Screens are offered in 15 languages, English and 14 Indian ones, and roughly 2.5 to 3 lakh people are seen on an ordinary day. The busiest single day so far brought 6,30,315 consultations.
Who uses it
Women account for 57.14 per cent of all use. Citizens of 46 years and above take 40.15 per cent of the consultations, and within that group people of 60 and above account for 16.25 per cent. The pattern shows the service matters most to those for whom a trip to a health centre means distance, cost and a day lost.
New technology on the platform
An Artificial Intelligence-powered Clinical Decision Support System (AI-CDSS) now sits inside the service, helping a provider while a consultation is on and steadying the quality and consistency of what gets decided. That piece of work has won a Gold Award under the National Awards for e-Governance 2026. The service has also been tied to the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112, so that an emergency call can be linked to medical advice sitting elsewhere.
Specialist OPDs begin
Until now the platform mostly carried primary care. Patient-to-doctor consultation in chosen specialities has been opened at AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Jammu and AIIMS Patna, letting a patient reach a specialist from home. The facility is to be widened in stages to other leading government institutions, among them further AIIMS hospitals, JIPMER and PGIMER Chandigarh, which should cut long journeys and the wait for an appointment at a tertiary-care hospital.
Who built it
eSanjeevani is a made-in-India product of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), with C-DAC Mohali carrying the engineering work from the beginning. Starting as a hub-and-spoke arrangement, it has grown into a platform of national size, and the ministry places it within the aims of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Viksit Bharat and Universal Health Coverage.

Exam Point of View
Remember the figure (50 crore, exactly 50,00,92,730), the day it was crossed (15 September 2026), the ministry (Health and Family Welfare), the builder (C-DAC, with C-DAC Mohali), the number of languages (15), the share of women (57.14 per cent), the busiest single day (6,30,315), the award won by AI-CDSS (Gold, National Awards for e-Governance 2026), the emergency system it is linked to (ERSS-112) and the three AIIMS where specialist OPDs started: Jodhpur, Jammu and Patna.
Practice Questions
eSanjeevani, the telemedicine service that has crossed 50 crore teleconsultations, works under which Union ministry?
- A.Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
- B.Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
- C.Ministry of Science and Technology
- D.Ministry of Rural Development
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
Explanation
The correct answer is the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. eSanjeevani is the national telemedicine service of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare guides its working and its growth as the needs of the health system change. The ministry announced that the platform had gone past 50 crore teleconsultations, the mark being reached on 15 September 2026 with a running total of 50,00,92,730 sittings in all 36 States and Union Territories. Option A is wrong because the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is not named as the ministry running the service, although the software itself was built by C-DAC. Option C is wrong because the Ministry of Science and Technology has no role described here. Option D is wrong because the Ministry of Rural Development looks after rural employment and rural infrastructure, not telemedicine. So the answer is the health ministry.
On which date did eSanjeevani cross the mark of 50 crore teleconsultations?
- A.15 August 2026
- B.1 September 2026
- C.15 September 2026
- D.6 October 2026
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 15 September 2026
Explanation
The correct answer is 15 September 2026. On that day the running count of teleconsultations on eSanjeevani stood at 50,00,92,730, which took the platform past the figure of 50 crore, or 500 million, across all 36 States and Union Territories. Options A and B name earlier dates in 2026 on which no such mark was recorded, so both are wrong. Option D, 6 October 2026, is the day the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare set out the achievement in its statement, which is not the same as the day the mark itself was crossed; a careless reader picks the day of the announcement instead of the day of the milestone. Candidates should keep the two dates apart, because a paper setter may ask for either one. Hence 15 September 2026 is the right choice.
Which organisation developed the eSanjeevani digital health platform?
- A.Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
- B.National Informatics Centre (NIC)
- C.Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
- D.Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
Explanation
The correct answer is the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). eSanjeevani is described as a made-in-India digital health solution developed by C-DAC, and its Mohali centre has given end-to-end technological development and engineering support from the very beginning. The platform grew from a hub-and-spoke telemedicine model into a national digital health platform of population scale. Option B is wrong because the National Informatics Centre is not named as the developer of this platform. Option C is wrong because the Indian Space Research Organisation works on space missions and satellites, not on a telemedicine service of this kind. Option D is wrong because the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research runs a chain of research laboratories and has no role described here. Remembering the pair, C-DAC and C-DAC Mohali, is enough for most questions on this story.
What is the share of women in the total utilisation of eSanjeevani?
- A.16.25 per cent
- B.40.15 per cent
- C.47.14 per cent
- D.57.14 per cent
Show answer
Correct answer: D. 57.14 per cent
Explanation
The correct answer is 57.14 per cent. Women make up that share of all use of eSanjeevani, which shows how far telemedicine has gone in reaching people for whom a journey to a health facility means time, money and difficulty. Option B, 40.15 per cent, is the share of consultations taken by citizens of 46 years and above, so it belongs to an age group and not to women. Option A, 16.25 per cent, is the share of senior citizens of 60 years and above, who form part of that same older group. Option C is close to the right figure in look but is not the one reported, and it is the sort of near miss a paper setter puts in to catch a half-remembered number. Candidates should hold the three shares together, because questions often swap one for another.
