The fest began in 2020 and has grown into one of the leading fintech gatherings anywhere.
The theme and its three pillars
The theme of the 2026 edition is Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum: Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance. Three technologies hold it up.
| Pillar | What it does |
| Agentic AI | Lets financial systems sense, decide and act in real time under governance rules |
| Tokenisation | Turns assets into programmable digital units, allowing fractional ownership and instant settlement |
| Quantum | Changes computation and security, from quantum-safe cryptography to risk optimisation |
Who organises the fest
The principal organisers are the Payments Council of India, the National Payments Corporation of India and the Fintech Convergence Council. Support comes from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Department of Financial Services, the NEST Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, NITI Aayog, the Reserve Bank of India, the Securities and Exchange Board of India, the International Financial Services Centres Authority and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority.
What the Prime Minister said
He called UPI a major champion of the country's fintech story and placed Aadhaar, internet expansion and UPI at the base of the digital public infrastructure. He pointed to growth of 7.8 per cent in the April to June quarter and to a Japanese credit rating agency raising the sovereign rating to the A- category after three decades. He asked the sector to take up four collective tasks: top-notch cybersecurity, ethical data protection standards, a strong innovation ecosystem between regulator and industry, and a Fintech Consumer Protection Index.

Practice Questions
In which city was the 7th Global Fintech Fest 2026 inaugurated by the Prime Minister?
- A.New Delhi
- B.Mumbai
- C.Bengaluru
- D.Gandhinagar
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Mumbai
Explanation
The correct answer is Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest there on 8 September 2026, and the festival continues in the same city until 11 September 2026. Option A, New Delhi, hosts many national conferences and is therefore the most natural wrong guess, but this fest is anchored in the country's financial capital. Option C, Bengaluru, is associated with technology and start-ups, which makes it plausible for a fintech event, yet it is not the venue named here. Option D, Gandhinagar, hosts the international financial services centre at GIFT City, whose regulator supports this fest, so a well read candidate may be tempted; support from a regulator is not the same as hosting the event. While revising, fix the edition number with the city and the dates, because questions on summits almost always test that combination.
Which three technologies form the pillars of the theme of the Global Fintech Fest 2026?
- A.Blockchain, drones and 5G
- B.Agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum
- C.Cloud, metaverse and robotics
- D.Big data, biometrics and semiconductors
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum
Explanation
The correct answer is Agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum. The theme of this edition is Potential to Impact, and these three technologies are described as the foundations that are moving global finance towards autonomous, programmable and secure systems for inclusive finance. Agentic AI allows a financial system to sense, decide and act in real time within governance rules. Tokenisation turns assets into programmable digital units, which permits fractional ownership and instant settlement. Quantum technology changes computation and security, and covers quantum-safe cryptography as well as advanced risk optimisation. Option A, option C and option D list technologies that are widely discussed in other contexts, and a candidate who has only skimmed the news may pick one of them, but none of these sets is the trio named in the theme. The Prime Minister too spoke of these three opening new possibilities in the financial sector.
Which of the following is a principal organiser of the Global Fintech Fest?
- A.National Payments Corporation of India
- B.Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority
- C.Food Corporation of India
- D.Indian Banks Association
Show answer
Correct answer: A. National Payments Corporation of India
Explanation
The correct answer is the National Payments Corporation of India. The fest is organised principally by the Payments Council of India, the National Payments Corporation of India and the Fintech Convergence Council, and it receives support from several ministries and regulators, among them the Reserve Bank of India, the Securities and Exchange Board of India, NITI Aayog, the International Financial Services Centres Authority and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority. Option B is a financial sector regulator but is not listed among the organisers of this event. Option C works on foodgrain procurement and storage and has nothing to do with financial technology. Option D is an association of banks and sounds plausible to a candidate guessing from the subject, yet it does not appear in the list of organisers. Remember the three organisers together, since the question is usually set on that trio.
