Why in News

On 19 October 2026 the National Human Rights Commission declared the ten winners of its online Human Rights Quiz-2026, organised with MyGov from 1 September to 10 October 2026 in the run-up to the Commission's 33rd Foundation Day.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) announced on 19 October 2026 the ten winners of its online quiz, Human Rights Quiz-2026: Celebrating Life, Liberty, Equality and Dignity. The quiz was run with MyGov from 1 September to 10 October 2026, in the run-up to the Commission's 33rd Foundation Day.

What the quiz was about

It was designed to draw people into learning about human rights, about the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993, and about the functions, powers and duties the Commission carries in promoting and protecting human rights across the country. A participant had to answer up to 15 questions within 300 seconds.

Who won

  • First prize of Rs 15,000: Ms. Aarti Mahajan
  • Second prize of Rs 10,000: Ms. Ritika
  • Third prize of Rs 5,000: Ms. Tooba Benazeer
  • Seven consolation prizes of Rs 2,000 each, among them Shri Aditya Gupta, Shri Tarun, Shri Rani Mandal, Shri Basant Kumar Mahato, Shri Likhth Kumar A and Ms. Deepika Madasu

How the winners were picked

A full score of 15 out of 15 was reached by 5,753 participants, far more than the number of prizes on offer. The ten winners were therefore settled by a draw of lots conducted by the MyGov team, in keeping with the terms and conditions of the quiz.

How many took part

Entries came from every State and Union Territory of the country. The quiz page drew 1,67,127 views and received 26,459 submissions. Most of those submissions came from the age group of 18 to 24, which gives a sense of how far the exercise reached among students and young working people. In the State-wise count, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu stood at the top for participation.

Why such a quiz

Awareness is the first step in rights enforcement: a person who does not know that a statutory commission exists, or what it can do, is unlikely to approach it. By tying the quiz to its Foundation Day and to the statute that created it, the Commission used a competition to teach the law rather than only publish it. Running the quiz on the MyGov platform carried it to every State and Union Territory without a physical event, and the prize structure, from Rs 15,000 at the top down to the consolation awards of Rs 2,000, kept participation worth the effort. The spread of submissions, and the fact that thousands answered every question correctly, suggests the material was both read and understood.
