The drive ran from 17 September to 2 October 2026 and opened with a pledge ceremony administered by the Secretary (Petroleum and Natural Gas) at Kartavya Bhawan-3 in New Delhi. The Secretary reviewed progress through the fortnight and pushed the ministry's organisations to widen participation.
Target units and public spaces
Under the first pillar, the ministry and its organisations took up cleaning and transformation at identified locations along with markets, neighbourhoods, toilets, offices and water bodies. A total of 9,845 cleanliness target units were transformed with 99,548 people taking part, and 937 public spaces were cleaned with 45,526 participants. Water bodies drew 143 cleanliness drives with 1,264 individuals, and 543 mohalla cleanliness drives were also held.
Students, sanitation workers and citizens
The Swachh Pathshala pillar, Yuva for Swachhta, reached 18,700 schoolchildren through awareness and demonstration activities, school-level drives, Jal Sanchay Samvad and Gyan Yatra, the last of which alone recorded 3,109 student participants. Why it matters for exams
Swachhata Hi Seva is an annual campaign that closes on Swachh Bharat Diwas, and ministries report their work under a fixed set of pillars: transformation of target units and public spaces, Swachh Pathshala for the young, welfare camps for safai mitras, Jan Bhagidari for citizen participation, and Swachhata Se Samriddhi for waste to wealth. The names of these pillars, and the headline figure of a ministry's performance, are the details that turn up in objective papers.
