Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers and for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, launched the fourteenth edition of India Chem 2026 at a function in New Delhi on 5 October 2026. India Chem is the flagship event of the chemicals and petrochemicals industry and is held once in two years. This edition will take place in Mumbai from 22 to 24 October 2026.

Theme and host

The theme of the edition is 'Advantage Bharat: An Emerging Global Hub'. The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals is hosting it together with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). It will run as an international exhibition and conference for industry leaders, policy makers, investors, researchers and overseas participants.

What the minister said

The minister held that the chemicals and petrochemicals sector can turn into an important engine of growth for the economy, and that the government is building the ecosystem and the infrastructure the industry needs so that the country becomes self-reliant and reaches the goal of a developed India by 2047. She asked that national initiatives be aligned so that India becomes a global centre for battery chemicals, speciality chemicals and semiconductor chemicals by 2040. The initiatives she named were the Critical Mineral Mission, the Rare Earth Corridor, India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, the National Manufacturing Mission and reforms in foreign direct investment.

BHAVYA Rasayan and research

On the BHAVYA Rasayan Scheme, the minister said it should be read not merely as a programme for infrastructure but as an attempt to create conditions in which the industry can innovate, invest and expand. The guidelines of the scheme have been issued and companies were urged to work with state governments so that proposals come in on time. She added that the department is pressing the Department of Science and Technology to declare chemicals and petrochemicals a priority sector, which would bring it under the new Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme. The aim held out was to grow the Indian chemical sector into a one trillion dollar industry by 2040.

Sessions planned

Secretary of the department, Tejveer Singh, said the vision of dedicated chemical parks is coming close to reality through the BHAVYA Rasayan scheme, with plug and play facilities meant to cut the cost of production. The event will carry conclaves on agrochemicals, petrochemicals, speciality chemicals, infrastructure, environment, and process, plant and machinery, along with region specific forums for India-US, India-EU, India-Russia and India-Japan.

Practice Questions

Q1.Summits & ConferencesEasy

What is the theme of India Chem 2026, the 14th edition of the chemicals and petrochemicals event?

  1. A.Chemicals for a Viksit Bharat
  2. B.Advantage Bharat: An Emerging Global Hub
  3. C.Green Chemistry, Green Growth
  4. D.Make in India for the World
Show answer

Correct answer: B. Advantage Bharat: An Emerging Global Hub

Explanation

The correct answer is Advantage Bharat: An Emerging Global Hub. This theme was announced when the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers launched the fourteenth edition of India Chem, and it reflects the growing capability of the country in the global chemicals and petrochemicals trade. The edition is being held in Mumbai from 22 to 24 October and is hosted by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals along with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Options A, C and D are slogans of the kind used for industry events and government campaigns, but none of them is the theme of this edition. A paper setter will usually pair the edition number with the theme and the city, so the three facts to hold together here are the fourteenth edition, the theme in option B and Mumbai as the venue. Only option B is therefore correct.

Q2.Summits & ConferencesMedium

Under which scheme are dedicated chemical parks with plug and play facilities to be developed?

  1. A.National Manufacturing Mission
  2. B.Critical Mineral Mission
  3. C.BHAVYA Rasayan Scheme
  4. D.Rare Earth Corridor
Show answer

Correct answer: C. BHAVYA Rasayan Scheme

Explanation

The correct answer is the BHAVYA Rasayan Scheme. The Secretary of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals said the long held vision of dedicated chemical parks is coming close to reality through this scheme, and that the parks will offer best in class plug and play facilities and other infrastructure so that the cost of production comes down. The minister added that the scheme should be seen not merely as an infrastructure programme but as an effort to create conditions in which the industry can innovate, invest and expand, and that its guidelines have already been issued. Options A, B and D name other initiatives that the minister asked to be aligned with the sector, along with India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 and reforms in foreign direct investment, but none of them is the scheme for chemical parks. Only option C is correct.

Q3.Summits & ConferencesMedium

In which city is India Chem 2026 being held?

  1. A.New Delhi
  2. B.Mumbai
  3. C.Ahmedabad
  4. D.Chennai
Show answer

Correct answer: B. Mumbai

Explanation

The correct answer is Mumbai. The fourteenth edition of India Chem will be held in Mumbai from 22 to 24 October, as an international exhibition and conference bringing together industry leaders, policy makers, investors, researchers and participants from abroad. Option A, New Delhi, is a tempting choice because the launch function for the edition was held in the national capital, but the event itself moves to Mumbai. Options C and D name other cities that host large industry expositions and are not connected with this edition. The programme in Mumbai will carry conclaves on agrochemicals, petrochemicals, speciality chemicals, infrastructure, environment and process, plant and machinery, besides region specific forums for India-US, India-EU, India-Russia and India-Japan. Remember that the launch city and the host city are different in this case, since questions often test exactly that distinction.
