The competitors described how they adapted to unfamiliar tools, software, technical systems and work processes during the competition, and spoke of the pride of representing the country abroad. The Prime Minister congratulated them and asked them to become ambassadors of skill development, saying practical skills count as much as academic degrees. As technology changes quickly, he said, young people must keep learning new skills, upgrade what they already know and take to emerging technologies. He urged them to build skills that match the demands of the international market and to feed their experience back into India’s skill training system.

Skills and the Viksit Bharat goal

Explaining why a separate ministry was created for skill development, the Prime Minister said skill training institutions matter no less than the IITs and IIMs. He called for youth, the government and training institutions to work in step so that India becomes a global hub of skilled human resources, and invited the competitors to send in their suggestions for improving the training ecosystem at home.

Practice Questions

Q1.NationalEasy

Which position did Team India secure at the 48th WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai?

  1. A.5th
  2. B.8th
  3. C.10th
  4. D.13th
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 10th

Explanation

The correct answer is 10th. Team India secured the tenth position at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, taking 6 silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence. Options A, B and D are wrong because they do not match the placing recorded for India at this edition; they are near-miss figures of the kind paper setters use as distractors. The competition ran from 22 to 27 September 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, and India fielded its largest contingent so far, 70 competitors spread across 63 skills. Remember the ranking together with the medal tally, because questions often pair the two. WorldSkills itself is described as the world’s leading international skills competition, bringing young professionals from participating countries and regions to show excellence in vocational and technical trades.

Q2.NationalMedium

How many silver medals did India win at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026?

  1. A.4 silver medals
  2. B.6 silver medals
  3. C.11 silver medals
  4. D.20 silver medals
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 6 silver medals

Explanation

The correct answer is 6 silver medals. India’s tally at the 48th WorldSkills Competition was 6 silver medals along with 20 Medals for Excellence, which together placed the country 10th. Options A and C are wrong because they state counts that do not appear in the record of this edition. Option D is a trap worth noticing: 20 is the number of Medals for Excellence India received, not the number of silver medals, and the two awards are counted separately. Medals for Excellence go to competitors who cross a defined standard of performance without finishing on the podium, which is why a contingent can collect many of them. For the examination, memorise the pair together with the size of the squad, 70 competitors in 63 skills, India’s largest ever at the competition.

Q3.NationalMedium

How large was the Indian contingent at the 48th WorldSkills Competition?

  1. A.48 competitors in 40 skills
  2. B.56 competitors in 52 skills
  3. C.70 competitors in 63 skills
  4. D.85 competitors in 70 skills
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 70 competitors in 63 skills

Explanation

The correct answer is 70 competitors in 63 skills, described as the largest contingent India has ever sent to the competition. Options A, B and D are wrong because they give squad sizes and skill counts that do not match this edition; option A borrows the edition number 48 to look plausible, which is exactly the kind of confusion a paper setter builds in. The contingent competed at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai between 22 and 27 September 2026 and brought home 6 silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence for a 10th-place finish. When the Prime Minister met them in New Delhi, the competitors spoke about adapting to new tools, software, technical systems and work processes, and he urged them to become ambassadors of skill development.

Q4.NationalMedium

Who is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship who attended the Prime Minister’s interaction with Team India?

  1. A.Jyotiraditya M. Scindia
  2. B.Jayant Chaudhary
  3. C.Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani
  4. D.Jitendra Singh
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Jayant Chaudhary

Explanation

The correct answer is Jayant Chaudhary, who holds independent charge as Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and is also Minister of State for Education. He attended the interaction along with senior officials of the Government of India. Option A is wrong because Jyotiraditya M. Scindia handles communications and the development of the North Eastern region. Option C is wrong because Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani is a Minister of State for communications and rural development. Option D is wrong because Jitendra Singh holds independent charge of science and technology and earth sciences. For the examination, link the ministry to the minister: skill development questions usually test the holder of the portfolio together with the event, in this case the meeting with the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 contingent.
