Teaching GK Questions 2026

General knowledge is not a named section of any CTET paper, but part of it sits inside two subjects. As per the CTET-September 2026 bulletin, Environmental Studies in Paper I has 30 questions: 15 on content and 15 on pedagogical issues. Its content themes are Family and Friends, Food, Shelter, Water, Travel, and Things We Make and Do. In Paper II, Social Studies/Social Science has 60 questions: 40 on History, Geography and Social and Political Life, and 20 on pedagogy. Science in Paper II has 20 content questions on food, materials, the world of the living, how things work, natural phenomena and natural resources. All of these follow the NCERT syllabus. GK24's topic-wise GK notes cover geography, Indian history, Indian polity, general science, and environment and ecology, in English and Hindi. In GK24's guidance, they help you revise facts after reading the NCERT chapter, not in place of it. They do not cover Child Development and Pedagogy, the languages, Mathematics or the pedagogy questions, which together make up most of each paper. The CTET page of this section holds the GK notes GK24 marks for CTET. State TETs set their own syllabus, so check the one you plan to take before relying on this mapping.

  2. B.The rotation of the Earth on its axis
  3. C.The tilt of the Earth's axis along with its revolution around the Sun
  4. D.The gravitational pull of the Moon
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The tilt of the Earth's axis along with its revolution around the Sun

The axis of the Earth is tilted about 23.5 degrees from the vertical and keeps pointing in the same direction throughout the year.

Q1167.Environment & EcologyHard

Net primary productivity of an ecosystem is equal to

  1. A.gross primary productivity plus respiration
  2. B.gross primary productivity minus the energy used by plants in respiration
  3. C.the total sunlight falling on the ecosystem
  4. D.the biomass of all the consumers
Show answer
Correct answer: B. gross primary productivity minus the energy used by plants in respiration

Gross primary productivity is the total amount of energy that producers fix by photosynthesis. Plants use a part of it for their own respiration, and what remains stored in plant bodies is the net primary productivity.

Q1168.Environment & EcologyHard

The pyramid of biomass in a pond ecosystem is

  1. A.upright
  2. B.inverted
  3. C.always a rectangle
  4. D.the same as the pyramid of energy
Show answer
Correct answer: B. inverted

In a pond the producers are phytoplankton, tiny floating plants whose total weight at any one moment is small. They multiply very rapidly, however, so over time they can feed a far greater mass of zooplankton and fish.

Q1169.Environment & EcologyEasy

Animals that feed on both plants and animals are called

  1. A.Herbivores
  2. B.Carnivores
  3. C.Omnivores
  4. D.Autotrophs
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Omnivores

Bears, crows, pigs and human beings eat both plant and animal food, which allows them to occupy more than one trophic level at the same time and makes them a good example of why food webs, rather than single food chains, describe nature better.

Q1170.Environment & EcologyMedium

A food chain that begins with dead organic matter is called

  1. A.Grazing food chain
  2. B.Detritus food chain
  3. C.Parasitic food chain
  4. D.Predator food chain
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Detritus food chain

Detritus is dead organic matter such as fallen leaves, dead bodies and animal waste. Organisms like earthworms, termites, bacteria and fungi feed on it, and they in turn are eaten by small birds and other animals.

Q1171.Environment & EcologyMedium

The flow of energy in an ecosystem is

  1. A.unidirectional
  2. B.cyclic, like the flow of nutrients
  3. C.from consumers to producers
  4. D.unchanged at every trophic level
Show answer
Correct answer: A. unidirectional

Energy enters an ecosystem as sunlight, is fixed by green plants, and then moves from producers to herbivores, to carnivores and finally to decomposers.

Q1175.Environment & EcologyEasy

In a food chain, green plants are called

  1. A.Producers
  2. B.Primary consumers
  3. C.Decomposers
  4. D.Secondary consumers
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Producers
