Georgi Gospodinov Georgiev won the International Booker Prize, 2023 for the darkly comic novel by the name :

The correct answer is C, Time Shelter. The Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov won the International Booker Prize 2023 for Time Shelter, translated from Bulgarian by Angela Rodel.

Time Shelter is about a clinic for people with Alzheimer's disease where each floor recreates a past decade, an idea that spreads until whole countries vote to return to an earlier era. It was the first Bulgarian novel to win the prize. The International Booker is given each year to a single book translated into English, and the prize money of 50,000 pounds is shared equally between the author and the translator, which is why the translator is always named with the winner.

Option A is wrong, because The Promise by Damon Galgut won the Booker Prize in 2021. Option B is wrong, because Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart won the Booker Prize in 2020. Option D is wrong, because Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo shared the Booker Prize in 2019 with Margaret Atwood's The Testaments.

Exam tip: International Booker 2022 Tomb of Sand (Geetanjali Shree), 2023 Time Shelter (Gospodinov).
