The Battle of Khanwa was fought on 17 March 1527 near Fatehpur Sikri, where Babur used his artillery and the tulughma flanking movement to break the Rajput confederacy led by Maharana Sanga.

In 1562 Bharmal of the Kachhwaha house met Akbar at Sanganer, accepted Mughal overlordship and sealed it with a matrimonial alliance; the princess who went to the Mughal household is remembered as the mother of Jahangir.

Akbar laid siege to Chittorgarh in 1567 and took it in February 1568. Maharana Udai Singh II had withdrawn to the hills, leaving the fort to Jaimal of Merta and Patta of Kelwa, who died fighting; Akbar was impressed enough to set up their statues at the Agra fort gate.

The Battle of Haldighati was fought on 18 June 1576 in the pass near Khamnor in Rajsamand district.

Amar Singh I, the son and successor of Maharana Pratap, fought Mughal columns for years before accepting terms in 1615 in Jahangir's reign.

Maharaja Jaswant Singh of Marwar died at Jamrud in 1678, and Aurangzeb tried to take the state under direct Mughal control.

By the 1730s Maratha armies were pressing into Rajputana for chauth and tribute, and Jai Singh II called the rulers to Hurda, in present Bhilwara district, in 1734.

After Sawai Jai Singh II died, his sons Ishwari Singh and Madho Singh fought over Jaipur. Ishwari Singh won the Battle of Rajmahal in 1747, but Madho Singh brought in Maratha help, chiefly Malhar Rao Holkar of Indore, and won the Battle of Bagru in 1748.

The Battle of Tunga was fought in 1787 near Lalsot in present Dausa district, where Maharaja Pratap Singh of Jaipur and Maharaja Vijay Singh of Jodhpur joined to resist Scindia's demands for tribute.

Worn down by Maratha demands and Pindari raids, the Rajput states turned to the East India Company under Lord Hastings, and Charles Metcalfe negotiated the terms.
