Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed the Mahaparva Kshamapana Ceremony 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on 4 October 2026. The ceremony was organised by the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee together with Jain Mahasabha Delhi. He called the occasion a celebration of the universal values of forgiveness, friendship, non-violence and inner purification.

Award presented

On the occasion the Vice-President presented the Jain Samaj Ratna Award to K. C. Jain. Among those at the ceremony were the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria; the President of the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee, Kanhaiya Lal Jain; the President of Jain Mahasabha Delhi, Dinesh Doshi; Acharya Shri Visuddh Sagarji Muniraj; Vipin Jain, General Secretary of the Shree Jain Tarun Samaj Bhagwan Mahaveer Memorial Samiti; Munishri Udit Kumar Ji; Munishri Tirth Nirvaan Vijay Ji; and Upadhyay Shri Ravinder Muni Ji.

What he said on forgiveness and Ahimsa

The Vice-President said the depth with which the Jain tradition has turned forgiveness into a spiritual discipline carries a deep meaning for India and for humanity today, and that Kshamapana is not a ritual alone but a chance to change the human heart. Forgiveness, he said, does not mean accepting injustice or compromising with truth: it means choosing reform in place of revenge, dialogue in place of hatred and reconciliation in place of hostility. He added that the spirit of Pratikraman can help individuals and families admit mistakes and settle quarrels. On non-violence he said Ahimsa is not merely the absence of physical violence but the absence of violence in thought, word and deed, and that Bhagwan Mahavira showed the path of inner victory, where real strength lies in conquering anger, intolerance and revenge.

Tamil Nadu, Jainism and Viksit Bharat

Pointing to the old link between Tamil Nadu and Jainism, Radhakrishnan said the faith has given much to Tamil literature and culture; he recalled the work of Jain scholars and monks in classical Tamil literature and the ancient Jain temples and seats of learning found across the state. He said the Jain teaching of friendship with all living beings and enmity towards none matches India's civilisational idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, and that in a world marked by conflict the teachings of Bhagwan Mahavira point to peace, dialogue, coexistence and compassion. Turning to Viksit Bharat @2047, he said development must go beyond economic prosperity, modern infrastructure and technology: a truly developed India must also have trust among citizens, values within families, character among the young and compassion in society, in keeping with Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi.

Practice Questions

Q1.NationalEasy

The Mahaparva Kshamapana Ceremony 2026, addressed by the Vice-President, was held at which venue in New Delhi?

  1. A.Bharat Mandapam
  2. B.Vigyan Bhawan
  3. C.Rashtrapati Bhavan
  4. D.Talkatora Stadium
Show answer

Correct answer: B. Vigyan Bhawan

Explanation

The correct answer is Vigyan Bhawan. The ceremony, organised by the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee along with Jain Mahasabha Delhi, was held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, and the Vice-President described the occasion as a celebration of the universal values of forgiveness, friendship, non-violence and inner purification. Option A, Bharat Mandapam, is wrong for this ceremony; it is a large convention venue in the capital that hosts other functions. Option C, Rashtrapati Bhavan, is the official residence of the President and was not the venue. Option D, Talkatora Stadium, is another Delhi venue offered only as a distractor. Candidates should pair the name of the ceremony with its venue and its organisers, since a question can be framed on any one of the three details.

Q2.NationalMedium

Who was presented the Jain Samaj Ratna Award at the Mahaparva Kshamapana Ceremony 2026?

  1. A.Kanhaiya Lal Jain
  2. B.Dinesh Doshi
  3. C.K. C. Jain
  4. D.Vipin Jain
Show answer

Correct answer: C. K. C. Jain

Explanation

The correct answer is K. C. Jain, who was given the Jain Samaj Ratna Award by the Vice-President at the ceremony in New Delhi. Option A, Kanhaiya Lal Jain, is wrong because he is the President of the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee, one of the organising bodies, and was present on the occasion. Option B, Dinesh Doshi, is wrong because he is the President of Jain Mahasabha Delhi, the other organiser. Option D, Vipin Jain, is wrong because he is the General Secretary of the Shree Jain Tarun Samaj Bhagwan Mahaveer Memorial Samiti and also attended the function. Questions of this kind test whether a candidate can tell the recipient of an award apart from the office bearers of the bodies that organised the event, so the names should be learnt with their designations.

Q3.NationalMedium

Which Governor was present at the Mahaparva Kshamapana Ceremony 2026 in New Delhi?

  1. A.Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria
  2. B.Governor of Rajasthan, Gulab Chand Kataria
  3. C.Governor of Haryana, Kanhaiya Lal Jain
  4. D.Governor of Gujarat, Dinesh Doshi
Show answer

Correct answer: A. Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria

Explanation

The correct answer is the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, who attended the ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan. Option B names the same person but the wrong state, and is the kind of distractor a paper setter uses when a Governor has served in more than one state, so the state has to be matched carefully with the name given in the official account of the function. Option C is wrong on both counts, because Kanhaiya Lal Jain is the President of the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee and holds no gubernatorial office. Option D is likewise wrong, because Dinesh Doshi is the President of Jain Mahasabha Delhi. Besides the Governor, the gathering included Acharya Shri Visuddh Sagarji Muniraj and several monks, along with the office bearers of the organising bodies.
