Andhra Pradesh Gets 3 Lakh PMAY-G Houses Worth Rs 3,600 Crore

Why in News

On 4 October 2026 Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed Andhra Pradesh 3 lakh houses worth Rs 3,600 crore under PMAY-Gramin 2.0 at Burripalem in Guntur district, and laid the foundation of India's first 3D concrete printing housing project along with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed Andhra Pradesh a sanction of 3 lakh permanent houses costing Rs 3,600 crore at a function held in Burripalem village of Guntur district on Sunday, 4 October 2026. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu shared the stage with him. The houses have been cleared under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) 2.0.

India's first 3D printed houses

The two leaders also laid the foundation stone of a pilot project of 177 houses to be built with 3D concrete printing technology at an outlay of Rs 14 crore. It is the first housing project of its kind in the country and will come up at Burripalem and Obulnaidupalem. Chouhan said machinery and the new technology will finish each house in about six months, will save time, cost and labour, and will give a structure stronger and longer lasting than a conventionally built home.

From a quota of 76,000 to 3 lakh

Chouhan told the gathering that officials of his ministry had first fixed the state's share at 76,000 houses, but the Chief Minister pressed for a larger number so that every poor family in Andhra Pradesh could get a roof, and the first instalment was raised to 3 lakh. He added that Naidu has since asked for 6 lakh more, taking the state's demand to 9 lakh houses in all, and promised that the next tranches of three lakh each would be sanctioned as the present one is completed. Thanking the Union Minister, Naidu said the figure had been lifted from 75,000 to 3 lakh at one stroke.

Farmers, Lakhpati Didis and the Saras Mela

Chouhan said the Centre pays Rs 6,000 a year under PM-KISAN and the state adds Rs 14,000 under its Annadata Sukhibhava scheme, so a farmer in Andhra Pradesh receives Rs 20,000 in a year. He said 23 lakh women in the state have become Lakhpati Didis and that the count will be taken to 60 lakh. He announced that the national Saras Mela will be held in Andhra Pradesh on 15 October, the first time the fair is being organised outside Delhi, and that President Droupadi Murmu will open it. He also recalled that a law passed in Parliament gave Amaravati the status of the only permanent capital of the state along with special assistance of Rs 15,000 crore, and that the Polavaram project is being completed with a 100 per cent central grant.

Exam Point of View

Remember the number of houses (3 lakh), the cost (Rs 3,600 crore), the scheme (PMAY-Gramin 2.0), the village and district (Burripalem, Guntur), the earlier quota (76,000), the 3D printing pilot (177 houses, Rs 14 crore), the annual farmer support of Rs 20,000 (Rs 6,000 PM-KISAN plus Rs 14,000 Annadata Sukhibhava), and that the national Saras Mela moves outside Delhi for the first time on 15 October with President Droupadi Murmu opening it.

Practice Questions

Q1.Government SchemesEasy

How many pucca houses were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) 2.0 at Burripalem?

  1. A.76,000
  2. B.1 lakh
  3. C.3 lakh
  4. D.9 lakh
Show answer

Correct answer: C. 3 lakh

Explanation

The correct answer is 3 lakh. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed Andhra Pradesh a sanction of three lakh permanent houses, costing Rs 3,600 crore, at Burripalem village in Guntur district, with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu present. Option A, 76,000, is wrong because that was only the quota first worked out for the state by officials of the rural development ministry; the Chief Minister asked for more and the first instalment was raised. Option B, one lakh, does not match any figure announced at the function and is simply a plausible looking round number. Option D, nine lakh, is wrong because nine lakh is the total requirement the Chief Minister has placed before the Centre, not the number cleared on this day; of that total, three lakh form the first instalment and six lakh more are to follow in tranches of three lakh each as the earlier work is finished.

Q2.Government SchemesMedium

India's first housing project using 3D concrete printing technology was launched in which state?

  1. A.Madhya Pradesh
  2. B.Andhra Pradesh
  3. C.Telangana
  4. D.Tamil Nadu
Show answer

Correct answer: B. Andhra Pradesh

Explanation

The correct answer is Andhra Pradesh. The foundation stone of the country's first housing project built with 3D concrete printing was laid at Burripalem and Obulnaidupalem in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. It is a pilot of 177 houses with an outlay of Rs 14 crore, and the houses are expected to be completed in about six months because machinery and the new technology save time, cost and labour while giving a stronger and more durable structure than conventional construction. Option A, Madhya Pradesh, is wrong although the Union Minister who launched the project has long been associated with that state; the project itself is in Andhra Pradesh. Option C, Telangana, and option D, Tamil Nadu, are neighbouring southern states and are offered only as plausible distractors; neither hosts this pilot. The ceremony at which it was launched also marked the handing over of three lakh houses to Andhra Pradesh.

Q3.Government SchemesMedium

How much does a farmer in Andhra Pradesh receive in a year from PM-KISAN and the state's Annadata Sukhibhava scheme together?

  1. A.Rs 6,000
  2. B.Rs 14,000
  3. C.Rs 20,000
  4. D.Rs 26,000
Show answer

Correct answer: C. Rs 20,000

Explanation

The correct answer is Rs 20,000. The Centre pays Rs 6,000 a year to eligible farmers under the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi, and the Andhra Pradesh government adds Rs 14,000 a year under its own Annadata Sukhibhava scheme, so a farmer in the state gets twenty thousand rupees in a year. Option A is wrong because Rs 6,000 is only the central share of that amount. Option B is wrong because Rs 14,000 is only the state's top up, paid over and above the central instalments. Option D is a figure that does not arise from either scheme and is included only as a distractor. The Union Minister mentioned these payments while speaking about the support given to farmers and to women, noting also that twenty three lakh women in the state have become Lakhpati Didis and that the number is to be raised to sixty lakh.

Q4.Government SchemesMedium

The national Saras Mela is being held outside Delhi for the first time. Where will it be organised and who will inaugurate it?

  1. A.Odisha, by the Prime Minister
  2. B.Andhra Pradesh, by the President
  3. C.Gujarat, by the Vice-President
  4. D.Bihar, by the Rural Development Minister
Show answer

Correct answer: B. Andhra Pradesh, by the President

Explanation

The correct answer is Andhra Pradesh, by the President. The Union Rural Development Minister announced at Burripalem that the national Saras Mela, a fair of self help group products, will be held in Andhra Pradesh on 15 October, and that this is the first time in the country's history that the fair moves out of Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate what he called the great gathering of the self help group sisters. Option A is wrong on both counts, as neither Odisha nor the Prime Minister is connected with this announcement. Option C names the Vice-President and Gujarat, and option D names the Rural Development Minister and Bihar; the Minister made the announcement but the inauguration is to be done by the President, and the venue is Andhra Pradesh, so both are incorrect.
