Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards 2024 Announced

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for 2024 on 2 September 2026. Four names were approved. The awards are India's highest recognition for adventure.

The four categories

The award is given in four categories. Three of them cover where the feat took place: Land Adventure, Water Adventure and Air Adventure. The fourth is Lifetime Achievement, for a body of work rather than a single exploit. In this edition no name was approved under Air Adventure.

Who won

Two of the four were recognised for land adventure. One award went for water adventure. The last is the lifetime honour.

What each winner gets

Every awardee receives three things. The first is a statuette. The second is a certificate. The third is award money of Rs 15 lakh.

The names were settled on the recommendation of the National Selection Committee. That committee studied the nominations, put them through due scrutiny, and then recommended the four for the national honour.

When and where they will be conferred

The President of India will hand over the awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan. They will be presented along with the National Sports Awards 2025. The date of the ceremony will be announced separately.

What the award is for

The purpose is stated plainly in the release. The awards recognise outstanding individual achievement in adventure. They also try to spread a particular temperament among young people: courage, endurance, discipline, a readiness to take risks, and the habit of working as a team. One more quality is named, the ability to decide quickly and act effectively when a situation turns difficult. Beyond the individuals honoured, the Government's aim is wider participation in adventure activities across the country, and a culture in which resilience and excellence are valued.
