TDB Signs Rs 151 Crore RDI Deal With ideaForge for YETI UAV
The Technology Development Board will put Rs 151 crore from the RDI Fund into YETI, a heavy-lift autonomous aerial logistics vehicle by ideaForge.

Why in News
On 14 October 2026 the Technology Development Board signed an agreement with ideaForge Technology Limited for Rs 151 crore of RDI Fund support to develop YETI, a heavy-lift autonomous aerial logistics vehicle, in a project costed at Rs 302 crore in all.
The Technology Development Board (TDB), which works under the Department of Science and Technology, has signed an agreement with ideaForge Technology Limited of Mumbai, Maharashtra, for financial support of Rs 151 crore drawn from the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund. The money goes to building YETI, a heavy-lift, long-range autonomous aerial logistics vehicle.
What the agreement covers
The whole project is costed at Rs 302 crore, so the board's share arrives as debt financing against roughly half of it. The purpose is to carry the technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL)-4 up to TRL-9, which is the stage at which a system is proven in actual operations. Engineering, integration, testing and validation needed for that climb are what the support pays for, subject to technical, safety and regulatory clearances.
What YETI is designed to do
YETI is an autonomous vertical take-off and landing fixed-wing hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle, written as VTOL-FW UAV. The combination matters: it rises and lands straight up like a rotorcraft, yet keeps a fixed wing for the long cruise, which is how it is meant to move heavy loads over distance in places where roads are poor or weather closes in.
| Payload | Up to 200 kg |
| Targeted range | Up to 200 km |
| Operating altitude | Up to 6,500 metres above mean sea level |
| Landing area needed | About 15 metres by 15 metres |
The technology inside
- Distributed and redundant propulsion and power architecture, for better fault tolerance
- Navigation that works even where satellite signals are denied
- A communication link reaching up to 200 km, plus swarm operation
- Containerised transport, so the vehicle can be shifted and set up quickly
- Weather-resistant build for high-altitude, desert and marine conditions
Why it matters
The project sits in the deep technology sector, with intelligent systems and robotics as its sub-sector. TDB Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak said indigenous heavy-lift aerial platforms can improve access to remote and hard-to-reach places, and that the RDI Fund is meant for technology-heavy projects that need sustained money to move from advanced development towards deployment. For aspirants the story is a clean example of the government funding an Indian deep-tech firm to take a defence-and-logistics platform all the way to field use.

Exam Point of View
Remember the pairing of TDB with ideaForge Technology Limited of Mumbai, the support figure of Rs 151 crore against a total project cost of Rs 302 crore, the fund it comes from (Research Development and Innovation Fund), the platform name YETI, its class as a VTOL fixed-wing hybrid UAV, the jump from TRL-4 to TRL-9, and the specifications: 200 kg payload, 200 km range, 6,500 metres altitude and a 15 by 15 metre landing area.
Practice Questions
How much financial support has the Technology Development Board agreed to give for the YETI project?
- A.Rs 101 crore
- B.Rs 151 crore
- C.Rs 251 crore
- D.Rs 302 crore
Show answer
That is the support the Technology Development Board has agreed to extend to ideaForge Technology Limited under the Research Development and Innovation Fund, and it comes in the form of debt financing.

- A.50 kg
- B.100 kg
- C.200 kg
- D.500 kg
Show answer
YETI is designed to lift payloads of up to 200 kg, and by a neat coincidence the same figure is its targeted range in kilometres, which makes the pair easy to remember together.

- A.4,500 metres
- B.5,500 metres
- C.6,500 metres
- D.8,500 metres
Show answer
YETI is designed for an operating altitude of up to 6,500 metres above mean sea level, which is what allows it to be considered for high-altitude work in the mountains, and its weather-resistant build is also meant for deserts and marine conditions.
