India Mobile Congress 2026 Draws Over 100 Countries to Yashobhoomi

Why in News

On 9 October 2026 Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia held a media interaction on the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, and set out its scale and India's shift towards indigenous telecom technology.

The tenth edition of the India Mobile Congress is being held at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi under the theme “Scale Without Boundaries”. It is put together jointly by the Department of Telecommunications of the Ministry of Communications and the Cellular Operators Association of India. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia spoke to the press about the show on 9 October 2026 and described it as Asia's foremost gathering on digital and telecom matters, one he hoped would soon count on the world stage.

The size of the tenth edition

Exhibition area60,000 square metres
Countries taking partmore than 100
Technology use casesover 2,000
Startupsmore than 400
Thought leadersover 900

Industry partners, exhibitors, investors, incubators and accelerators are present alongside them. The minister argued that the worth of the event lies less in these counts than in what follows from it: ideas that turn into products, partnerships that turn into investment, and laboratory advances that reach public services and daily life.

From connectivity to home-grown technology

Looking back at ten years, the minister said the stress so far had been on spreading digital access, while the decade ahead must build technical capability at home, speed up the roll-out of new ideas and carry Indian products abroad. He summed it up in a line: the coming decade is not about bringing the world to India but about taking India to the world. Three strands of change were named — wider connectivity, indigenous capability and a stronger manufacturing base. The country has widened broadband reach, rolled out 5G quickly across the land, built an end-to-end 4G stack of its own and deepened its telecom and electronics manufacturing.

Beyond 'Made in India'

The aim now, he said, is to move from “Made in India” to “Designed, Developed and Made in India”, selling Indian technology in foreign markets as a trusted partner rather than only a large consumer. He singled out Samriddh Gram, an award-winning programme of the Department of Telecommunications, whose Samriddhi Kendras tie together government services, health care, schooling, farming and village enterprise on one digital base. A clear path from research and patents to a product and then to export markets is needed, he added, naming ASPIRE and C-DOT, along with universities, startups and industry, as the institutions that must carry it.

Exam Point of View

Remember the edition (10th), the venue (Yashobhoomi, New Delhi), the theme ('Scale Without Boundaries') and the organisers (Department of Telecommunications with COAI). The numbers are the likely questions: a 60,000 square metre exhibition, more than 100 countries, over 2,000 use cases, more than 400 startups and over 900 thought leaders. Also note the slogan shift to 'Designed, Developed and Made in India', the Samriddh Gram initiative with its Samriddhi Kendras, and ASPIRE and C-DOT as innovation institutions.

Practice Questions

Q1.Science & TechnologyEasy

What is the theme of the 10th India Mobile Congress, held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi?

  1. A.Scale Without Boundaries
  2. B.Connecting the Unconnected
  3. C.Digital India, Global Partner
  4. D.Networks for Viksit Bharat
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Scale Without Boundaries

Explanation

The correct answer is Scale Without Boundaries. The tenth edition of the India Mobile Congress is being held at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi under that theme, organised jointly by the Department of Telecommunications of the Ministry of Communications and the Cellular Operators Association of India. Options B, C and D are wrong because none of them is the theme of this edition; each is a plausible-sounding telecom slogan of the kind used to test whether a candidate has memorised the exact wording. Along with the theme, the figures are worth learning: the exhibition covers 60,000 square metres, more than 100 countries are taking part, over 2,000 technology use cases are on display, and more than 400 startups and over 900 thought leaders have come. The Communications Minister described the event as Asia's leading digital and telecom conference.

Q2.Science & TechnologyMedium

How many countries are taking part in India Mobile Congress 2026?

  1. A.More than 50
  2. B.More than 75
  3. C.More than 100
  4. D.More than 150
Show answer
Correct answer: C. More than 100

Explanation

The correct answer is more than 100. The scale of the tenth edition is set out in a cluster of figures: an exhibition area of 60,000 square metres, participation from over 100 countries, more than 2,000 technology use cases, over 400 startups and more than 900 thought leaders, besides industry partners, exhibitors, investors, incubators and accelerators. Options A and B, more than 50 and more than 75, are wrong because they understate the participation. Option D, more than 150, is wrong because it overstates it; no such count is given. The minister stressed that the real measure of the event is not the head count but what comes out of it: ideas becoming products, partnerships becoming investment and research reaching public services and everyday use.

Q3.Science & TechnologyMedium

Which two bodies jointly organise the India Mobile Congress?

  1. A.TRAI and NASSCOM
  2. B.Department of Telecommunications and COAI
  3. C.MeitY and CII
  4. D.C-DOT and FICCI
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Department of Telecommunications and COAI

Explanation

The correct answer is the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India. The India Mobile Congress is put together jointly by the Department of Telecommunications, which comes under the Ministry of Communications, and the industry body COAI. Option A is wrong because the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is the sector regulator and NASSCOM represents software and services, and neither organises the event. Option C is wrong because the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology runs a pavilion at the show but is not an organiser. Option D is wrong because the Centre for Development of Telematics is a research body named by the minister as part of the innovation chain, not a co-host. Learn the pair with the venue, Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, and the theme of the tenth edition.

Q4.Science & TechnologyHard

Which initiative of the Department of Telecommunications, built around Samriddhi Kendras, did the Communications Minister single out?

  1. A.BharatNet Udaan
  2. B.Samriddh Gram
  3. C.Digital Gaon Mission
  4. D.Sanchar Saathi
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Samriddh Gram

Explanation

The correct answer is Samriddh Gram. The minister made special mention of this award-winning initiative of the Department of Telecommunications, whose Samriddhi Kendras show how a single digital base can carry government services, health care, schooling, farming and village enterprise to rural communities, demonstrating that connectivity and home-grown innovation can support inclusive growth. Options A and C, BharatNet Udaan and Digital Gaon Mission, are wrong because no such names appear in the account of the interaction. Option D, Sanchar Saathi, is wrong because it was not the initiative cited here. The same remarks framed the shift from 'Made in India' to 'Designed, Developed and Made in India', and named ASPIRE and the Centre for Development of Telematics, along with universities, startups and industry partners, as the bodies that must carry research through to products and export markets.
