UPSC CAPF GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge fills most of Paper-I in UPSC CAPF. Of the six areas the CAPF (ACs) 2026 notice lists for General Ability and Intelligence, four are static: General Science; Indian Polity and Economy; History of India; and Indian and World Geography. The notice's wording shows the depth expected. Polity covers the political system and the Constitution of India, social systems, public administration, security issues and human rights with their indicators. Economy covers economic development in India. History covers social, economic and political aspects, including the growth of nationalism and the freedom movement. Geography covers physical, social and economic aspects of India and the world. General Science asks about everyday scientific phenomena and new areas such as Information Technology, Biotechnology and Environmental Science. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for UPSC CAPF, in English and Hindi, written as short facts and tables so that a topic can be revised in one sitting: Indian Polity, Indian History, Geography, Indian Economy, General Science, Environment and Ecology, Computer, and Art and Culture. The same notes serve Paper-II, whose essay part suggests modern Indian history, the freedom struggle, geography, polity and economy as topics. Read one topic at a time, then solve its quiz and the CAPF previous-year questions on this site to check what you have retained. General Mental Ability, the sixth area, is reasoning and arithmetic, and needs separate practice.

Which one of the following processes is not used for the production of hydrogen gas?

  1. A.Electrolytic process
  2. B.Water gas-steam process
  3. C.Liquefaction of coal gas
  4. D.Hydrolysis of calcium carbide
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Hydrolysis of calcium carbide

When calcium carbide reacts with water it gives acetylene (ethyne) gas and calcium hydroxide, not hydrogen. The reaction CaC₂ + 2H₂O → C₂H₂ + Ca(OH)₂ is the old method of making acetylene, once burnt in miners' lamps and still used for welding and for ripening fruit illegally.

  2. B.B is deflected away from A.
  3. C.B is deflected upwards.
  4. D.B is deflected downwards.

Q1174.Science & TechnologyHard

Which structure was identified as the cause of the varying secondary emission lines in Centaurus X-3?

  1. A.The stellar wind of the companion star
  2. B.The surface of the neutron star
  3. C.The accretion stream
  4. D.A ring of dust around the binary
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The accretion stream

The team worked out that the structure responsible had to be rotating together with the pulsar, and the stream fits that description: as it swings between the pulsar and the observing satellite, the direct radiation from the pulsar weakens while the light re-emitted by the stream strengthens, producing the variation…

Q1175.Science & TechnologyHard

Why is the finding about Centaurus X-3 considered unusual?

  1. A.A high-mass X-ray binary usually captures stellar wind directly instead of forming a disk
  2. B.The pulsar was found to have no magnetic field at all
  3. C.The companion star was found to be smaller than the Sun
  4. D.The system was found to lie outside our galaxy
Show answer
Correct answer: A. A high-mass X-ray binary usually captures stellar wind directly instead of forming a disk

In such pairs the companion is a massive star that sheds a strong wind, and the pulsar ordinarily feeds on that wind as it passes, so an orderly disk of matter is not expected.

Q1176.Science & TechnologyMedium

Scientists of which institute found that the X-ray pulsar Centaurus X-3 accretes matter through an accretion disk?

  1. A.Indian Institute of Astrophysics
  2. B.Raman Research Institute
  3. C.Physical Research Laboratory
  4. D.Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Raman Research Institute

The group examined four secondary emission lines from the system and concluded that the structure causing those lines to vary must be turning along with the pulsar, which pointed them to the accretion stream and therefore to a disk feeding it.
