CTET GK Questions 2026

General knowledge is not a named section of CTET, but part of it sits inside two subjects. In Paper I, Environmental Studies has 30 questions: 15 on content and 15 on pedagogical issues. The content themes in the CTET September 2026 bulletin are Family and Friends (relationships, work and play, animals and plants), Food, Shelter, Water, Travel, and Things We Make and Do. In Paper II, Social Studies/Social Science has 60 questions: 40 on content from History, Geography and Social and Political Life, and 20 on pedagogy. Science in Paper II has 20 content questions on food, materials, the world of the living, how things work, natural phenomena and natural resources. The bulletin bases all of these on the NCERT syllabus, with difficulty up to the Secondary stage in Paper I and the Senior Secondary stage in Paper II. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes marked for CTET: geography, Indian history, Indian polity, general science, and environment and ecology, in English and Hindi. Use them as guidance to revise facts after reading the NCERT chapter, not in place of it. GK24 does not cover Child Development and Pedagogy, the languages, Mathematics or the pedagogy questions, which make up most of each paper.

  3. C.Western Australia
  4. D.Tasmania
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Queensland

The Great Barrier Reef stretches for over two thousand kilometres in the Coral Sea along the north-eastern coast of Queensland, is the largest coral reef system in the world, and was placed on the list of World Heritage sites in 1981; the warm shallow tropical water of the continental shelf…

  1. A.Peru and Bolivia
  2. B.Chile and Argentina
  3. C.Brazil and Paraguay
  4. D.Ecuador and Colombia
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Peru and Bolivia

Lake Titicaca lies on the Altiplano plateau of the Andes at a height of about three thousand eight hundred metres and is shared by Peru and Bolivia; it is the highest lake in the world on which steamers ply, which is the exact reason it is called the highest navigable…

Which is the highest peak of the continent of North America?

  1. A.Mount Logan
  2. B.Denali
  3. C.Pico de Orizaba
  4. D.Mount Whitney
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Denali

Denali, which was earlier called Mount McKinley, stands in Alaska in the United States and is the highest peak of North America at about six thousand one hundred ninety metres; the name means the high one in the local Athabaskan language and was officially restored in 2015.

Q369.General ScienceEasy

Raising a large number of identical plants from a small piece of tissue in a nutrient medium is called

  1. A.Micropropagation
  2. B.Hybridisation
  3. C.Grafting
  4. D.Vernalisation
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Micropropagation

A small piece of tissue called an explant is placed in a sterile nutrient medium with growth regulators, it forms an unorganised mass called a callus and then whole plantlets, because a plant cell is totipotent, that is, able to give rise to a complete plant; the plants so raised…

Q370.General ScienceMedium

The CRISPR and Cas9 system is used for which purpose?

  1. A.Gene editing
  2. B.Measuring blood sugar
  3. C.Separating proteins
  4. D.Sterilising instruments
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Gene editing

The system comes from a defence mechanism of bacteria against viruses: a guide RNA takes the Cas9 protein to a chosen sequence in the DNA, Cas9 cuts both strands there, and the cell's own repair machinery then changes the sequence, so a gene can be switched off or corrected in…

Q371.General ScienceMedium

Which body gives approval for the release of genetically modified organisms in India?

  1. A.Indian Council of Agricultural Research
  2. B.Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee
  3. C.Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
  4. D.Central Pollution Control Board
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee

This committee works under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and appraises proposals for the large scale use and the environmental release of genetically engineered organisms and products, so no transgenic crop may be grown commercially without its clearance.

Q372.General ScienceMedium

Gene therapy was first attempted in 1990 on a patient suffering from the deficiency of which enzyme?

  1. A.Adenosine deaminase
  2. B.Amylase
  3. C.Lipase
  4. D.Trypsin
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Adenosine deaminase

The deficiency of adenosine deaminase destroys the immune system because the enzyme is needed for the normal working of lymphocytes, and in 1990 lymphocytes of a girl with this disorder were grown outside the body, given a functional gene and returned to her blood; since those cells are not permanent…

Q374.General ScienceHard

The technique of DNA fingerprinting was developed by which scientist?

  1. A.Alec Jeffreys
  2. B.Kary Mullis
  3. C.Har Gobind Khorana
  4. D.Paul Berg
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Alec Jeffreys

The British geneticist Alec Jeffreys developed DNA fingerprinting in 1984 by studying short repeated sequences that vary in number from person to person, and the method is now used in criminal investigation, in disputes about parentage and in identifying victims of accidents and disasters.

Q376.General ScienceMedium

Which heat stable enzyme is used in the polymerase chain reaction?

  1. A.Taq polymerase
  2. B.DNA ligase
  3. C.EcoRI
  4. D.Lysozyme
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Taq polymerase

The polymerase chain reaction repeats three steps, denaturation at a high temperature, annealing of short primers and extension of the new strand, so the enzyme must survive near boiling water; Taq polymerase, obtained from the bacterium Thermus aquaticus of hot springs, does exactly that and lets a single DNA segment…

Q377.General ScienceMedium

Golden Rice is a genetically modified variety enriched with which substance?

  1. A.Iron
  2. B.Beta carotene
  3. C.Lysine
  4. D.Vitamin C
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Beta carotene

Golden Rice carries genes that let the grain make beta carotene, the orange pigment that the human body converts into vitamin A, and the colour of the grain gives the variety its name; the aim is to reduce night blindness and childhood blindness in populations whose diet is mainly rice.

Q379.General ScienceMedium

  2. B.Agrobacterium tumefaciens
  3. C.Bacillus thuringiensis
  4. D.Rhizobium leguminosarum
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Agrobacterium tumefaciens

This soil bacterium naturally transfers a part of its tumour inducing plasmid, called the Ti plasmid, into the cells of a dicotyledonous plant and causes crown gall disease; genetic engineers disarm the plasmid, insert the gene they want and use the bacterium as a vector, which is why it is…

Q380.General ScienceEasy

Which enzyme cuts DNA at a specific recognition sequence and is therefore called molecular scissors?

  1. A.DNA ligase
  2. B.Restriction endonuclease
  3. C.DNA polymerase
  4. D.Reverse transcriptase
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Restriction endonuclease

A restriction endonuclease recognises a short palindromic sequence in DNA and cuts both strands there, leaving sticky ends that can pair with another piece cut by the same enzyme; Hind II was the first such enzyme to be discovered and EcoRI from Escherichia coli is the most widely used.
