RRB JE Previous Year GK Questions

Previous-year questions show what the RRBs actually ask in the General Awareness and General Science sections of the Junior Engineer exam, which the CEN describes only as a list of subject areas. Reading them shows the depth the RRBs expect: school-level science with everyday applications, polity questions on articles and constitutional bodies, history questions on the freedom struggle, geography questions on rivers, national parks and resources, and current affairs framed as a single fact. They also show that the same themes return across shifts and cycles with new options. This page gathers RRB JE previous-year questions from CBT-1 and CBT-2 as GK24 adds them, in English and Hindi, each with the correct answer, a short explanation and the topic it belongs to, so a question leads straight to the GK note that covers it. Use them in three passes: first untimed to learn the pattern, then timed to build speed, and a week later to revisit your mistakes. In the previous cycle the RRBs let candidates view the questions, responses and answer keys of both CBTs and raise objections, which is how recent papers become available. Combine the previous-year questions with the daily current affairs, GK notes and quizzes on this site, and the General Awareness sections stop being guesswork.

Previous Year Questions

Q102.Environment & EcologyAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 28 June 2019, Shift 3Easy

Where is the Kanha Tiger Reserve located?

  1. A.Madhya Pradesh
  2. B.Karnataka
  3. C.Odisha
  4. D.Maharashtra
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Madhya Pradesh

Kanha Tiger Reserve lies in the Mandla and Balaghat districts of Madhya Pradesh, in the Maikal hills at the eastern end of the Satpura range.

Q103.Environment & EcologyAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 28 June 2019, Shift 3Easy

Which of the following is NOT a biodegradable waste?

  1. A.Vegetable peel
  2. B.Dead leaves
  3. C.Polythene bag
  4. D.Rotting fruit
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Polythene bag

Polythene is a synthetic plastic that bacteria and fungi cannot break down, so it is non-biodegradable. A plastic bag can stay in soil or water for hundreds of years.

Q105.Environment & EcologyAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 16 Dec 2024, Shift 2Easy

Why is the depletion of the ozone layer a concern for humans?

  1. A.It promotes plant growth.
  2. B.It leads to increased water pollution.
  3. C.It protects us from harmful radiation.
  4. D.It increases soil fertility.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. It protects us from harmful radiation.

The ozone layer shields us from the Sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, so when it thins, that protection is lost. It lies in the stratosphere, roughly 15 to 35 km above the Earth, and absorbs most of the UV-B and UV-C radiation.

Q108.Computer AwarenessAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-2 (Civil), 22 Apr 2025, Shift 1Easy

What is the primary function of a computer firewall?

  1. A.To speed up internet connectivity
  2. B.To prevent unauthorised access to a private network
  3. C.To detect and remove computer viruses
  4. D.To store user passwords securely
Show answer
Correct answer: B. To prevent unauthorised access to a private network

A firewall stands between a trusted private network and an untrusted one such as the internet, and checks the data going in and out.

Q110.Computer AwarenessAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-2 (Civil), 22 Apr 2025, Shift 2Easy

Which of the following is NOT a component of a CPU?

  1. A.Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)
  2. B.Control Unit (CU)
  3. C.Cache Memory
  4. D.Hard Disk
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Hard Disk

A hard disk is a secondary storage device that keeps programs and files permanently, even when the power is off, and it sits outside the processor.

Q112.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 17 Dec 2024, Shift 2Medium

What is the molecular formula of washing soda?

  1. A.NaHCO₃
  2. B.Na₂CO₃·10H₂O
  3. C.Na₂CO₃
  4. D.NaCl
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Na₂CO₃·10H₂O

Washing soda is sodium carbonate decahydrate: each unit of sodium carbonate holds ten molecules of water of crystallisation. It is made from common salt in steps: baking soda is heated to get anhydrous sodium carbonate, called soda ash, which is then recrystallised from water to give washing soda crystals.

Q113.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 17 Dec 2024, Shift 1Easy

Why are danger signals typically red in colour?

  1. A.Red light has a longer wavelength and is scattered the least, making it visible from a distance.
  2. B.Red light is more reflective than other colours.
  3. C.Red light is easier to produce artificially.
  4. D.The colour red is aesthetically pleasing.
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Red light has a longer wavelength and is scattered the least, making it visible from a distance.

Red has the longest wavelength in visible light, about 700 nm, so the tiny particles of air, fog, smoke and dust scatter it the least.

Q115.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 16 Dec 2024, Shift 1Easy

Which of the following rules is used to determine the direction of the force on a current-carrying conductor in an electric motor?

  1. A.Ampere's Law
  2. B.Right-Hand Thumb Rule
  3. C.Fleming's Right-Hand Rule
  4. D.Fleming's Left-Hand Rule
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Fleming's Left-Hand Rule

It gives the direction of the force, and so of the motion, on a current-carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field, which is exactly what turns the coil of a motor.

Q116.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 16 Dec 2024, Shift 1Easy

Which of the following reactions represents the combustion of methane?

  1. A.CH₄ + 2O₂ → CO₂ + 2H₂O
  2. B.CH₄ + Cl₂ → CH₃Cl + HCl
  3. C.CH₄ + O₂ → CO + H₂O
  4. D.CH₄ + H₂O → CO + H₂
Show answer
Correct answer: A. CH₄ + 2O₂ → CO₂ + 2H₂O

Combustion means burning in oxygen, and complete burning of methane gives carbon dioxide, water, heat and light. The equation is balanced: one carbon, four hydrogen and four oxygen atoms on each side.

Q119.General ScienceAsked in: RRB JE · CBT-1, 26 May 2019, Shift 2Easy

Which set of sign conventions is followed while dealing with reflection of light by spherical mirrors?

  1. A.System convention
  2. B.Sign convention
  3. C.Mirror convention
  4. D.New Cartesian sign convention
Show answer
Correct answer: D. New Cartesian sign convention

It is the standard set of rules used for reflection by spherical mirrors and for the mirror formula. Under this convention the pole of the mirror is the origin and the principal axis is the x-axis.
