RRB Group D GK Questions 2026

Static GK is not a separate section in RRB Group D, but it decides most of the paper's recall marks. General Science is 25 questions of Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard (CBSE) level as per CEN 09/2025, and the 20 General Awareness questions lean on the standing facts behind the news: the sport, the award, the institution, the state, the river or the scientist an event touches. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB Group D. The General Science notes go topic by topic through motion and force, work, energy and power, gravitation, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism, atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, and carbon compounds, and the Life Sciences notes cover cells, the human body, nutrition, diseases, plants and genetics. The static GK notes cover Indian Railways zones and facts, national symbols, first and largest in India and the world, awards and honours, important days, books and authors, sports GK, art and culture, and the basics of Indian Polity, Geography, History and the Economy. Each note is short facts and tables that can be revised in one sitting. Read a note, then solve its quiz and the previous-year questions on this site to check what stayed.

Q82.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-I 2021, GKEasy

The direction of acceleration in uniform circular motion is along the

  1. A.direction of motion.
  2. B.tangent to the circle at the point of observation.
  3. C.direction of velocity.
  4. D.direction perpendicular to velocity.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. direction perpendicular to velocity.

In uniform circular motion the acceleration points towards the centre of the circle, at right angles to the velocity. In uniform circular motion the speed stays the same, but the direction of motion changes at every point, so the velocity keeps changing and the body is accelerating.

Calcium oxide reacts vigorously with water to produce slaked lime whose solution is used for white-washing walls. This slaked lime reacts with component (A) in air to form a thin layer of component (B) to give a shiny finish. What are the components (A) and (B)?

  1. A.A-O₂; B-CaCO₃
  2. B.A-CO₂; B-Ca(OH)₂
  3. C.A-O₂; B-Ca(OH)₂
  4. D.A-CO₂; B-CaCO₃
Show answer
Correct answer: D. A-CO₂; B-CaCO₃

Slaked lime on the wall slowly absorbs carbon dioxide from the air and turns into a thin, shiny layer of calcium carbonate.

Q87.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2025, GATHard

A current through a horizontal power line flows in east to west direction. What will be the direction of magnetic field at a point directly below it when viewed from east end ?

  1. A.Clockwise in a plane perpendicular to the wire
  2. B.Anti-clockwise in a plane perpendicular to the wire
  3. C.Clockwise in a plane of parallel to the wire
  4. D.Anti-clockwise in a plane of parallel to the wire
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Clockwise in a plane perpendicular to the wire

Seen from the east end, the current flows away from the observer, and by the right-hand thumb rule the field lines around it are clockwise circles in a plane perpendicular to the wire.

Q90.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2020, GATEasy

Which one of the following statements regarding Bleaching powder and D.D.T. is correct ?

  1. A.Both are inorganic compounds
  2. B.Both are organic compounds
  3. C.Both contain chlorine
  4. D.Both contain calcium
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Both contain chlorine

Bleaching powder is calcium oxychloride, CaOCl₂, and DDT is dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane; chlorine is the one element common to both. Bleaching powder is made by passing chlorine gas over dry slaked lime.

Q91.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2021, GATEasy

When a light beam falls on a triangular glass prism, a band of colours is obtained. Which one of the following statements is correct in this regard?

  1. A.Red light bends the most, as the refractive index of glass for red light is greatest.
  2. B.Red light bends the most, as the refractive index of glass for red light is lowest.
  3. C.Violet light bends the most, as the refractive index of glass for violet light is greatest.
  4. D.Violet light bends the most, as the refractive index of glass for violet light is lowest.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Violet light bends the most, as the refractive index of glass for violet light is greatest.

The more a colour is slowed by glass, the higher the refractive index for it and the more it bends.

Which one of the following metals is most commonly used for making filament of incandescent electric bulbs?

  1. A.Aluminium
  2. B.Silver
  3. C.Copper
  4. D.Tungsten
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Tungsten

The filament of an incandescent bulb must glow white-hot without melting, and tungsten has the highest melting point of all metals, about 3,400 °C. An incandescent bulb works by the heating effect of electric current: the thin coiled filament gets so hot, around 2,500 °C or more, that it gives…

Q93.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2023, GATMedium

Which one among the following is true for the speed of sound in a given medium ?

  1. A.Speed of sound remains same at all frequencies
  2. B.Speed of sound is faster at higher frequencies
  3. C.Speed of sound is slower at higher frequencies
  4. D.Speed of sound is slower at higher wavelengths
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Speed of sound remains same at all frequencies

In a given medium under the same conditions, sounds of all frequencies travel at the same speed; the speed depends on the medium, not on the pitch.

Q95.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2017, GATEasy

Concave mirror is used in headlights of vehicles, because it

  1. A.focuses light from the bulb onto nearby vehicles
  2. B.sends parallel rays
  3. C.fits well into the shape of the headlight
  4. D.is cheaper than other mirrors
Show answer
Correct answer: B. sends parallel rays

The bulb of a headlight is placed at the principal focus of a concave mirror, so the reflected light leaves as a strong beam of parallel rays that reaches far down the road.

Q96.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2020, GATMedium

Which one of the following is the correct sequence of change in colours when a turmeric stain on white clothes is scrubbed by soap and then washed with water?

  1. A.Yellow - pink - blue
  2. B.Yellow - reddish brown - yellow
  3. C.Yellow - reddish brown - blue
  4. D.Yellow - blue - pink
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Yellow - reddish brown - yellow

Turmeric is a natural indicator: soap is basic and turns the yellow stain reddish brown, and rinsing with plenty of water removes the soap so the stain turns yellow again.

In the dispersion of white light by a common glass prism, which one among the following is correct ?

  1. A.Red light deviates the most because red light has highest speed in prism
  2. B.Blue light deviates the most because blue light has highest speed in prism
  3. C.Red light deviates the most because red light has lowest speed in prism
  4. D.Blue light deviates the most because blue light has lowest speed in prism
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Blue light deviates the most because blue light has lowest speed in prism

In glass, light of shorter wavelength travels more slowly, so the glass has a higher refractive index for it and bends it more.
