RRB Group D GK Questions 2026

Static GK is not a separate section in RRB Group D, but it decides most of the paper's recall marks. General Science is 25 questions of Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard (CBSE) level as per CEN 09/2025, and the 20 General Awareness questions lean on the standing facts behind the news: the sport, the award, the institution, the state, the river or the scientist an event touches. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for RRB Group D. The General Science notes go topic by topic through motion and force, work, energy and power, gravitation, heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism, atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, and carbon compounds, and the Life Sciences notes cover cells, the human body, nutrition, diseases, plants and genetics. The static GK notes cover Indian Railways zones and facts, national symbols, first and largest in India and the world, awards and honours, important days, books and authors, sports GK, art and culture, and the basics of Indian Polity, Geography, History and the Economy. Each note is short facts and tables that can be revised in one sitting. Read a note, then solve its quiz and the previous-year questions on this site to check what stayed.

The acceleration due to gravity at the Earth's surface depends on

  1. A.its mass only.
  2. B.its radius only.
  3. C.both its mass and radius.
  4. D.either its mass or its radius.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. both its mass and radius.

By Newton's law of gravitation, the acceleration due to gravity at the surface is g = GM/R², where G is the universal gravitational constant, M is the mass of the Earth and R is its radius.

Q253.General ScienceMedium

A force of 20 newton is applied at right angles to a rod at a point 0.5 metre from the axis of rotation. The torque about the axis is

  1. A.4 newton metre
  2. B.10 newton metre
  3. C.40 newton metre
  4. D.20.5 newton metre
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 10 newton metre

Torque is r into F into the sine of the angle between them, and since the force here is perpendicular to the rod the sine is one, so the torque is simply 0.5 multiplied by 20, that is 10 newton metre.

The following statements (S1 and S2) pertain to principle of moments stated as Varignon theorem: S1: Theorem states that the Square of the moment of a Force is equal to the Sum of the Square moment of its components. S2: For applying Varignon Theorem, the force system may be either coplanar or spatial, but it must be concurrent. Identify the statements as True or False and choose the best answer.

  1. A.Both S1 and S2 are False
  2. B.Both S1 and S2 are True
  3. C.S1 is True and S 2 is False
  4. D.S1 is False and S 2 is True
Show answer
Correct answer: D. S1 is False and S 2 is True

Varignon theorem states that the moment of a force about any point equals the algebraic sum of the moments of its components about the same point; it speaks of the moments themselves, not of their squares, so statement S1 is false as written.

Q255.General ScienceMedium

A spinning skater pulls both arms close to the body and spins faster. This happens because

  1. A.The angular momentum of the skater increases
  2. B.The moment of inertia decreases, so the angular velocity increases
  3. C.The torque applied by the skater increases
  4. D.The mass of the skater decreases
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The moment of inertia decreases, so the angular velocity increases

Moment of inertia is the sum of each bit of mass multiplied by the square of its distance from the axis, so drawing the arms in reduces it.

Q256.General ScienceHard

The centre of gravity of a uniform solid right circular cone of height h lies on its axis at a distance of

  1. A.h divided by 2 from the base
  2. B.h divided by 3 from the base
  3. C.h divided by 4 from the base
  4. D.3h divided by 4 from the base
Show answer
Correct answer: C. h divided by 4 from the base

A solid cone has more material near its wide base than near its apex, so its centre of gravity lies on the axis of symmetry well below the middle, at one quarter of the height measured from the base, which is three quarters of the height measured down from the…

A wheelbarrow is an example of which class of lever?

  1. A.First class
  2. B.Second class
  3. C.Third class
  4. D.It is not a lever
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Second class

In a wheelbarrow the wheel is the fulcrum, the load in the tray lies between the wheel and the hands, and the effort is applied at the handles, so the load sits in the middle, which defines a second class lever; a nutcracker, a bottle opener and a lemon squeezer…

Q258.General ScienceMedium

When a body in stable equilibrium is slightly displaced, its centre of gravity

  1. A.Rises, and the body returns to its original position
  2. B.Falls, and the body moves further away
  3. C.Stays at the same height
  4. D.Shifts outside the body
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Rises, and the body returns to its original position

In stable equilibrium the original position is the one of least potential energy, so a small displacement lifts the centre of gravity and the weight of the body brings it back, as with a cone resting on its base or a book lying flat on a table.

Q259.General ScienceMedium

A rigid body is said to be in complete mechanical equilibrium when

  1. A.The net force on it is zero
  2. B.The net torque on it is zero
  3. C.Both the net force and the net torque on it are zero
  4. D.Its centre of gravity lies at its geometrical centre
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Both the net force and the net torque on it are zero

A zero net force gives translational equilibrium, so the body as a whole does not accelerate, and a zero net torque gives rotational equilibrium, so it does not begin to spin; complete equilibrium requires the two together.

Q260.General ScienceEasy

A long spanner loosens a tight nut more easily than a short one because it

  1. A.Reduces the force needed by increasing the moment arm
  2. B.Reduces the friction at the nut
  3. C.Increases the mass acting on the nut
  4. D.Changes the direction of the weight of the nut
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Reduces the force needed by increasing the moment arm

Torque is the product of the force and the perpendicular distance of its line of action from the axis, so the same turning effect can be produced by a smaller force if that distance is made larger; a long handle therefore does the same work with less effort.
