Which building in Beijing is the meeting place of the National People's Congress of China?
- A.Zhongnanhai
- B.The Great Hall of the People
- C.The Forbidden City
- D.The Potala Palace
Correct answer
Explanation
The correct answer is B, the Great Hall of the People. This large hall on the western side of Tiananmen Square in Beijing is where the National People's Congress, China's legislature, holds its sessions, and where state ceremonies and receptions for visiting leaders are held.
Option A is wrong because Zhongnanhai, the walled compound beside the Forbidden City, is the working headquarters of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, that is the executive rather than the legislature. Option C is wrong because the Forbidden City was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties and is now a museum. Option D is wrong because the Potala Palace is in Lhasa in Tibet and was the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas, with no legislative role.
