The Pentagon is the headquarters of which organisation?
- A.The United States Congress
- B.The Federal Bureau of Investigation
- C.The United States Department of Defense
- D.The Central Intelligence Agency
Correct answer
Explanation
The correct answer is C, the United States Department of Defense. The Pentagon stands at Arlington in Virginia, across the Potomac river from Washington D.C., and houses the American defence department along with the headquarters of its armed services. Its name comes from the five-sided plan of the building, and it is counted among the largest office buildings in the world.
Option A is wrong because Congress meets in the United States Capitol on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. Option B is wrong because the Federal Bureau of Investigation works from its own headquarters building in Washington D.C. Option D is wrong because the Central Intelligence Agency has its headquarters at Langley in Virginia, a separate campus that is often offered as a distractor beside the Pentagon.
