The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium is located in which city?
- A.Kanpur
- B.Varanasi
- C.Lucknow
- D.Gorakhpur
Correct answer
Explanation
The correct answer is C, Lucknow. The Ekana stadium, named after Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, stands at Gomti Nagar in Lucknow and is the largest and newest cricket ground of the state, used for international matches and for league cricket. Option A is wrong because the cricket ground of Kanpur is Green Park, a much older Test venue by the Ganga. Option B is wrong because Varanasi is known in sport for the hockey tradition of Mohammed Shahid and for the Sampurnanand sports stadium, rather than for the Ekana ground. Option D is wrong because Gorakhpur, although an important city of the eastern region, does not host this stadium. Note that Vajpayee, who represented Lucknow in Parliament for several terms, is commemorated in the name, which is itself a question in some papers.
