Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. Syngamy results in formation of

  1. A.haploid zygote
  2. B.diploid zygote
  3. C.non-motile male gametes
  4. D.motile male gametes
Show answer
Correct answer: B. diploid zygote

Which of the following is the general formula for saturated hydrocarbons?

  1. A.CₙH₂ₙ₊₂
  2. B.CₙH₂ₙ₋₂
  3. C.CₙH₂ₙ₊₁
  4. D.CₙH₂ₙ₋₁
Show answer
Correct answer: A. CₙH₂ₙ₊₂

Saturated open-chain hydrocarbons are the alkanes, and every alkane fits the formula CₙH₂ₙ₊₂. In a saturated hydrocarbon every carbon atom is joined to others only by single bonds, so each carbon holds the largest possible number of hydrogen atoms.

  3. C.Smallpox
  4. D.Elephantiasis

The unit of the force constant k of a spring is

  1. A.N-m
  2. B.N/m
  3. C.N-m²
  4. D.N/m²
Show answer
Correct answer: B. N/m

The spring constant is force divided by extension, so its SI unit is newton per metre. Hooke's law says that, within the elastic limit, the restoring force of a spring is proportional to how far it is stretched or compressed: F = −kx.

Q3495.General ScienceAsked in: CDS · CDS-II 2021, GKMedium

In which of the following groups of organisms, is food material broken down outside the body and absorbed?

  1. A.Yeast, mushroom, bread mould
  2. B.Mushroom, Amoeba, green plants
  3. C.Cuscuta, tapeworm, lice
  4. D.Paramecium, Amoeba, Cuscuta
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Yeast, mushroom, bread mould

All three are fungi that feed saprophytically: they release enzymes onto dead organic matter, digest it outside their bodies and then absorb the dissolved food.

Suppose, due to an accident, the delicate lining of the mouth and the oesophagus of a person is injured. In this case, which one of the following tissues will be affected?

  1. A.Smooth muscle
  2. B.Cuboidal epithelium
  3. C.Squamous epithelium
  4. D.Striated muscle
Show answer

  4. D.Both starch and glycogen are present in plant cells as well as animal cells.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Starch is present in plant cells and glycogen is present in animal cells.

Both are stored forms of glucose, but plants store it as starch and animals as glycogen. Starch and glycogen are polysaccharides, long chains of glucose units.
