Static general knowledge makes up about 90% of Part B of the NDA General Ability Test, about 360 of its 400 marks. The NDA & NA (II) 2026 notice divides it into five sections: Physics (about 25%), Chemistry (about 15%), General Science (about 10%), History, Freedom Movement etc. (about 20%) and Geography (about 20%). Half of Part B is science. Physics covers matter, motion, gravitation, heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity and the working of everyday devices such as the siphon, pressure cooker, periscope and safety fuse. Chemistry covers changes of matter, elements and compounds, common gases, acids, bases and salts, carbon, fertilizers and the materials used to make soap, glass, cement and gunpowder. General Science covers cells, the human body, diseases, diet, the solar system and eminent scientists. Section D spans Indian history and culture, the freedom movement, the Constitution, Five Year Plans, Panchayati Raj and world history from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution. Geography covers the Earth, rocks, oceans, the atmosphere and climate, and India's resources, industries, ports and trade. Q3445.General ScienceAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2019, Paper IEasy

Which one of the following is NOT true for an electromagnetic wave ?

  1. A.Electromagnetic wave transports energy and momentum
  2. B.Electromagnetic wave can be polarized and reflected
  3. C.Electromagnetic wave is longitudinal
  4. D.Electromagnetic wave propagation is described by the varying electric and magnetic fields
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Electromagnetic wave is longitudinal

Electromagnetic waves are transverse, not longitudinal, so this statement is false. In an electromagnetic wave the electric field and the magnetic field oscillate at right angles to each other and both at right angles to the direction in which the wave travels.

Q3446.Static GKAsked in: UPSC CAPF · CAPF 2020, Paper IEasy

Where does podsolization take place ?

  1. A.Regions in high middle latitudes
  2. B.Coastal regions in lower latitudes
  3. C.Regions with hot and humid climate
  4. D.Regions having arid climate
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Regions in high middle latitudes

Q3451.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2018, GATEasy

Which one of the following frequency ranges is sensitive to human ears ?

  1. A.0-200 Hz
  2. B.20-20,000 Hz
  3. C.200-20,000 Hz only
  4. D.2,000-20,000 Hz only
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 20-20,000 Hz

The normal human ear hears sound from about 20 hertz to 20,000 hertz, the audible range. Frequency, measured in hertz, is the number of vibrations per second, and it decides the pitch of a sound: the higher the frequency, the shriller the note.

Q3452.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2018, GATEasy

The frequency of ultrasound waves is

  1. A.less than 20 Hz
  2. B.between 20 Hz and 2 kHz
  3. C.between 2 kHz and 20 kHz
  4. D.greater than 20 kHz
Show answer
Correct answer: D. greater than 20 kHz

Ultrasound is sound with a frequency above 20,000 Hz, the upper limit of human hearing. Humans hear sound between about 20 Hz and 20 kHz.

Q3454.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2019, GATEasy

A sample of 'soft soap' contains

  1. A.Caesium
  2. B.Potassium
  3. C.Calcium
  4. D.Magnesium
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Potassium

Soft soaps are potassium salts of fatty acids, while ordinary hard bar soaps are sodium salts. Soap is made by saponification, heating an oil or fat with an alkali.

Q3455.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2021, GATEasy

Which of the following sets of elements has the same valency?

  1. A.Na, Mg, Ca
  2. B.Na, Mg, Al
  3. C.Mg, Ca, K
  4. D.Mg, Ca, Ba
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Mg, Ca, Ba

Magnesium, calcium and barium are all alkaline earth metals of group 2, and each has a valency of 2. Elements in the same group of the periodic table have the same number of electrons in their outermost shell, and so the same valency.

Q3459.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-II 2023, GATEasy

Eukaryotic cells are much more complex as compared to prokaryotes. Which one of the following structures is exclusively present in a eukaryotic cell ?

  1. A.Cell wall
  2. B.Plasma membrane
  3. C.Nucleic acid
  4. D.Mitochondria
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Mitochondria

Mitochondria are membrane-bound organelles, and only eukaryotic cells have membrane-bound organelles. Prokaryotes such as bacteria and cyanobacteria have no true nucleus and no membrane-bound organelles; their DNA lies in a region called the nucleoid, and they carry out respiration on their plasma membrane.

Q3460.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · NDA-I 2024, GATMedium

The relative atomic mass of boron (which exists in two isotopic forms ¹⁰B and ¹¹B) is 10.81. What will be the abundance of ¹⁰B and ¹¹B, respectively (consider a sample of 100 atoms)?

  1. A.19% and 81%
  2. B.81% and 19%
  3. C.38% and 62%
  4. D.62% and 38%
Show answer
Correct answer: A. 19% and 81%

Only this split of boron-10 and boron-11 gives an average atomic mass of 10.81. The relative atomic mass of an element is the average of its isotopes' masses, each weighted by how common it is.
