Chandrayaan-1 was launched in 2008, carried the Moon Impact Probe and instruments from several countries, and its data showed the presence of water molecules on the lunar surface, which changed the understanding of the Moon.

The correct answer is A, Sriharikota, an island on the coast of Andhra Pradesh, from which PSLV, GSLV and LVM3 flights take off.

The headquarters of ISRO and of the Department of Space are at Bengaluru, where the U R Rao Satellite Centre and the telemetry and tracking network ISTRAC are also located.

The SLV-3 placed it in orbit on 18 July 1980 from Sriharikota, with A. P. J. Abdul Kalam as the mission director, and the flight made India a country able to launch its own satellites.

It was launched on 19 April 1975 from a Soviet launch site, was named after the astronomer of the fifth century and carried experiments in astronomy and solar physics.

It is the second of the three Yudh Seva medals instituted in 1980, below the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal and above the Yudh Seva Medal.

The two lists are announced on 26 January and on 15 August, and the medals are presented later at investiture ceremonies by the President, who is the Supreme Commander of the armed forces.

He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously for the action at Badgam in Kashmir in November 1947, during the first conflict after independence, and the medal itself was instituted on 26 January 1950 with effect from 15 August 1947.

It is the highest peacetime gallantry award and is given for the most conspicuous bravery or self-sacrifice away from the field of battle, to members of the armed forces and to civilians alike.

The three grades of the series are worded exactly this way and questions are set on the wording alone: the most exceptional order for the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, an exceptional order for the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and a high order for the Vishisht Seva Medal.

The three medals were instituted in 1980 and follow the same three steps as the Vishisht Seva medals, but the word Yudh in the name shows that they belong to wartime service rather than peacetime service.

The medal was instituted in that year in three classes, and in 1967 the classes were given the separate names Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal.

It is given for distinguished service of the most exceptional order, and the word Param marks the top step of every Indian series of decorations.
