Defence GK Questions 2026

Static GK carries most of the General Knowledge marks in the defence exams, and science carries the largest share of it. In NDA & NA, Physics, Chemistry and General Science are about half of the 400 marks of Part B, and History, the freedom movement and Geography are about 20% each, as per the notice. In the CDS (II) 2026 General Knowledge paper, GK24 counted about 37 science questions, about 20 each on Polity and History, about 15 on Geography and environment and about 10 on the Economy; this count is guidance, not an official break-up. The Army's Agniveer CEE gives 15 of its 50 General Duty questions to General Knowledge and 15 to General Science, which covers cells, the human body, plants and animals and common epidemics. Its GK list names history, culture and geography of India and its neighbours, the Constitution, inventions and discoveries, books and authors, and the Indian Armed Forces. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes and GK questions tagged for NDA, CDS and Agniveer, in English and Hindi: General Science, Indian History, Art and Culture, Indian Polity, Geography, Indian Economy and Static GK. Read one topic at a sitting, then solve its questions and the previous-year questions of your exam to see what stayed with you.

Q5962.General ScienceHard

In a blast furnace, limestone is added along with haematite and coke mainly to

  1. A.reduce the iron oxide to iron
  2. B.act as a flux and remove silica as slag
  3. C.raise the temperature of the furnace
  4. D.increase the carbon content of the pig iron
Show answer
Correct answer: B. act as a flux and remove silica as slag

Limestone decomposes in the furnace to calcium oxide, a basic flux, which combines with the acidic silica gangue of the ore to form calcium silicate, a fusible slag that floats on the molten iron and is drawn off separately.

Q5963.General ScienceMedium

The Mond process is used for the refining of which metal?

  1. A.Nickel
  2. B.Titanium
  3. C.Copper
  4. D.Zinc
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Nickel

In the Mond process impure nickel is heated in a stream of carbon monoxide at a moderate temperature, forming the volatile compound nickel tetracarbonyl; the vapour is led away from the solid impurities and heated more strongly, whereupon it decomposes and deposits very pure nickel.

Q5965.General ScienceHard

In the extraction of aluminium by electrolysis, cryolite is added to alumina mainly to

  1. A.act as a reducing agent
  2. B.lower the melting point and increase the conductivity of the melt
  3. C.oxidise the carbon anode
  4. D.remove iron as slag
Show answer
Correct answer: B. lower the melting point and increase the conductivity of the melt

Pure alumina melts at a very high temperature, so in the Hall and Heroult process it is dissolved in molten cryolite, sodium hexafluoroaluminate, usually with some fluorspar, which lowers the working temperature of the bath and makes the melt a far better conductor of electricity.

Q5967.General ScienceMedium

Brass is an alloy of which two metals?

  1. A.Copper and tin
  2. B.Copper and zinc
  3. C.Copper and nickel
  4. D.Copper and aluminium
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Copper and zinc

Brass is made by alloying copper with zinc, which gives a metal harder than copper, easier to cast and machine, and resistant to ordinary corrosion, so it is used for utensils, taps and fittings and the bodies of musical instruments.

Q5968.General ScienceHard

Zone refining is used to obtain metals of very high purity and depends on which principle?

  1. A.The metal has a lower boiling point than its impurities
  2. B.Impurities are more soluble in the molten metal than in the solid metal
  3. C.The impurity forms a volatile carbonyl
  4. D.The impurity is oxidised and absorbed by a porous cupel
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Impurities are more soluble in the molten metal than in the solid metal

Zone refining rests on the fact that impurities are more soluble in a molten metal than in the same metal when solid.

Q5969.General ScienceMedium

Calcination differs from roasting in that calcination is carried out

  1. A.in a plentiful supply of air
  2. B.in the absence or a limited supply of air
  3. C.in the presence of a reducing agent
  4. D.above the melting point of the ore
Show answer
Correct answer: B. in the absence or a limited supply of air

Calcination is the heating of an ore in the absence or a limited supply of air and below its melting point, so that water of hydration and carbon dioxide are driven off; it is therefore the step used for carbonate ores such as calamine and for hydrated ores such as…

Q5971.General ScienceEasy

Galena is an ore of which metal?

  1. A.Zinc
  2. B.Lead
  3. C.Tin
  4. D.Mercury
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Lead

Galena is lead sulphide, with the formula PbS, and is the principal ore from which lead is extracted; being a sulphide, it is concentrated by froth flotation and then roasted to the oxide before reduction.

Q5973.Science & TechnologyHard

The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully tested a 3D-printed version of which rocket engine?

  1. A.The Vikas engine of the GSLV
  2. B.The CE-20 cryogenic engine
  3. C.The PS4 engine, the fourth stage of the PSLV
  4. D.The S200 solid booster of the LVM3
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The PS4 engine, the fourth stage of the PSLV

The space agency made the engine by fusing metal powder with a laser and tested it successfully, reducing the number of separate parts in the engine from fourteen to a single printed piece and cutting both the material used and the time taken to build it.

Q5974.Science & TechnologyMedium

A digital twin is best described as

  1. A.two identical copies of the same file stored on separate servers
  2. B.a virtual replica of a physical asset that is fed live data from sensors on the original
  3. C.a pair of head-mounted displays sharing one virtual environment
  4. D.a 3D printer that prints two objects at the same time
Show answer
Correct answer: B. a virtual replica of a physical asset that is fed live data from sensors on the original

Because the model receives readings from the real machine, building or city as it works, it behaves as the real asset behaves, and engineers can test a change, foresee a failure or plan maintenance on the model without disturbing the original.

Q5975.Science & TechnologyMedium

The National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing in India was brought out by which ministry?

  1. A.Ministry of Heavy Industries
  2. B.Ministry of Science and Technology
  3. C.Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
  4. D.Ministry of Commerce and Industry
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology

The strategy was released by that ministry in 2022 to build a domestic ecosystem for additive manufacturing, covering machines, materials and software, the creation of Indian intellectual property and the skilling of workers, in line with the Make in India and self-reliance programmes.

XR, used as an umbrella term in this field, stands for

  1. A.Extended Reality
  2. B.Extreme Rendering
  3. C.External Representation
  4. D.Expanded Resolution
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Extended Reality

XR is the collective name for augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality together, and is used whenever a statement is meant to cover all the technologies that blend the physical world with digital content.

Q5978.Science & TechnologyEasy

Which statement correctly describes augmented reality?

  1. A.It shuts out the real world and replaces it with a computer-generated environment
  2. B.It overlays computer-generated content on the user's view of the real world
  3. C.It prints solid objects layer by layer from a digital model
  4. D.It is a virtual copy of a physical machine fed by live sensor data
Show answer
Correct answer: B. It overlays computer-generated content on the user's view of the real world

In augmented reality the room, street or object in front of the user stays visible and images, text or sound are added on top of it, as when a camera labels a monument or a windscreen display shows directions.
