SECL Earns Rs 26.17 Crore from Scrap in Special Campaign 6

Why in News

On 28 October 2026 the Ministry of Coal said South Eastern Coalfields Limited had surpassed key targets under Special Campaign 6, disposing of 4,602 metric tonnes of scrap and generating about Rs 26.17 crore in revenue.

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, has gone past several of its targets under Special Campaign 6, the government's drive on cleanliness, scrap disposal, space optimisation and record management. The gains came at the company's establishments in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

Cleanliness and scrap

SECL took up cleanliness work at 226 sites against a target of 225, covering more than 47 lakh square feet against a target of 40 lakh square feet. It disposed of 4,602 metric tonnes of scrap against a target of 3,300 metric tonnes, and that disposal brought in revenue of about Rs 26.17 crore. The company says the result reflects its attention to efficient use of resources, systematic scrap disposal and better workplace management.

The file work is meant to cut pendency, tidy up records and lift administrative efficiency, and in each of the four heads the company finished well ahead of what was set for it.

Electronic waste and waste to wealth

Collection, segregation and disposal of electronic waste is one of the campaign's main planks, and SECL ran dedicated e-waste drives at its establishments. A separate e-waste bin was put up at the headquarters in Bilaspur so that employees could hand in discarded electronic items, and the bin itself was fabricated out of discarded material, which the company offers as an illustration of the waste to wealth idea. E-waste booths were also set up in SECL's residential colonies in Bilaspur, along with door to door collection to draw residents in, and similar work was taken up across the operational areas.

Awareness and public participation

  • Cleanliness rallies, Shramdaan, Nukkad Natak performances and school-level competitions were held across the operational areas
  • The implementation phase opened on Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October 2026, with a Swachhata Happy Run, a plantation drive under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and the Swachhata pledge at Bilaspur
  • The work built on Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, held from 17 September to 2 October, in which SECL cleaned more than 55 Cleanliness Target Units covering over 10 lakh square feet

Special Campaign 6 is being run from 2 to 31 October 2026 and covers e-waste management, cleanliness, space optimisation, scrap disposal, record management and reduction of pendency. For an exam aspirant the release is a ready source of figures on a public sector undertaking's performance in a government-wide campaign, and it is also a reminder that SECL is a Coal India subsidiary working in two states.
