Satna–Devendranagar and Rewa–Churhat Rail Lines Opened

Why in News

On 24 October 2026 the Satna–Devendranagar and Rewa–Churhat rail sections of the Lalitpur–Singrauli project were dedicated to the nation, and the Devendranagar–Churhat passenger train was flagged off.

Trains began running on two freshly built lines in the Vindhya belt of Madhya Pradesh on 24 October 2026. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who joined from New Delhi over video conferencing, and Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav together dedicated the Satna–Devendranagar and Rewa–Churhat sections to the nation. A new Devendranagar–Churhat–Devendranagar passenger service was flagged off on the same occasion. The main function was held at Churhat railway station and a second gathering at Nagod railway station, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla and Members of Parliament from Rewa, Sidhi, Satna and Khajuraho.

The two sections in figures

SectionLengthCost
Rewa–Churhatabout 65 kmabout ₹1,070 crore
Satna–Devendranagarabout 53 kmabout ₹873 crore

The Rewa line was finished once the last piece of roughly 22.5 km between Rampur Naikin and Churhat was ready, and the Satna line once the final 8 km between Phulwari and Devendranagar was ready. Both belong to the Lalitpur–Singrauli railway project, which the Chief Minister put at 541 km and described as a bridge between Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh serving Lalitpur, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli.

What the region gains

Reaching Churhat gives households in Sidhi district a rail link to the rest of the country, shortening journeys for students, patients and daily travellers. Satna and the country around it hold limestone and a cluster of cement and mineral industries, so the new line is expected to carry cement and clinker by rail instead of road and cut logistics costs. Farmers and traders near Devendranagar, Nagod and Panna get a cheaper route to bigger markets for grain, stone craft and handicrafts, and jobs are expected in warehousing, transport and trade. Tourist sites in the belt, among them the white tiger safari at Mukundpur, the Chachai and Bahuti waterfalls, Rewa Fort and Govindgarh, become easier to reach.

Railway work across the state

The Railway Minister said projects worth close to ₹1 lakh crore are in hand in Madhya Pradesh, covering new lines, doubling, third and fourth lines and gauge conversion, on stretches such as Lalitpur–Singrauli, Satna–Rewa, Katni–Singrauli, Jabalpur–Gondia, Bina–Bhopal–Itarsi, Ratlam–Khandwa and Indore–Dahod. Once they are through, he said, the state could take more than 100 long-distance trains and another 50 to 60 MEMU and intercity services. Nearly 80 stations in the state are listed for redevelopment, with Khajuraho being rebuilt in a design drawn from local heritage. He also ordered officials to inspect saplings planted against the trees felled for the project.
