Sukna as a logistics hub
Addressing soldiers at a Barakhana on the eve of Diwali, the minister called logistics a pillar of national security and described Sukna and the area around it as a critical point for moving supplies, weapons, food, medicines and troops to forward posts. Sukna, he said, is a vital link in the security architecture of eastern India, and its geographical sensitivity demands round-the-clock readiness. He added that the government is working to strengthen supply chains so that soldiers in forward areas lack nothing, and that budget provision for roads, tunnels, border infrastructure and modern equipment has been raised as the country moves towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Indian start-ups and industry, he noted, now make drones, anti-drone systems and other advanced equipment for the forces.
The changing shape of war
The minister said security challenges no longer stop at an exchange of fire or artillery along the border. They now take in hybrid warfare, proxy wars, cyber-attacks, drone incursions and information warfare, with adversaries spreading rumours on social media, watching sensitive sites with drones and trying to break into military systems. He asked personnel to stay alert across every domain. He also spoke about mental health, urging soldiers under stress to talk to their comrades rather than bottle up their feelings, and asked officers to spend more time with their men.
North-East as the first edge
Calling the North-Eastern region the first edge of India rather than its last edge, the minister said the region receives the first rays of the morning sun and marks the beginning of the national landscape. He praised its biodiversity, natural beauty and cultural variety, and described the Barakhana itself as a mark of togetherness that cuts across rank, region and language.
