President Murmu Attends Haryana Hirak Jayanti at Kurukshetra

President Droupadi Murmu attended the 'Hirak Jayanti' celebration held to mark the 60th year of the formation of the State of Haryana, at Kurukshetra on 1 November 2026. Hirak Jayanti is the diamond jubilee, and the day is observed in Haryana as its foundation day.

What the President said

Addressing the gathering, the President congratulated the people of the State for what they have added to India's progress. She said this is the land from which the lasting message of selfless action taught by Bhagwan Krishna travelled across the world, and that in modern times too it has set many marks of human achievement. People from Haryana, she said, have contributed in fields as varied as the freedom struggle, social change, democracy, literature and science.

On women's empowerment

The President noted the progress the State has made over the past decade on several measures of women's empowerment. She recalled that the national campaign 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' was launched from Panipat in January 2015, and called it a very important step for the cause. She was glad that the sex ratio at birth in 2025 had improved on the figure for 2014, and said that with the Centre and the State working together the ratio should reach parity. She expected the gains in women's health and in the education of girls to pick up further pace.

Sport and inclusive growth

Turning to sport, the President said athletes from Haryana have done exceptionally well at major international championships in the history of Indian sport, and she praised the daughters of the State for the pride their performances have brought the country. Haryana, she added, is climbing new steps on its path of inclusive development. She closed by recalling that this soil gave the world the message of the Gita, and wished that the words of Bhagwan Krishna give strength and judgement to every person and institution working for the State's progress.
