Why in News

The Ministry of Culture announced that the eighth edition of the PM Mementos e-auction, featuring thirty Delhi-themed gifts presented to the Prime Minister, is live and extended till 31 October 2026, with the proceeds going to the Namami Gange project.

The eighth edition of PM Mementos, the public e-auction of gifts and artefacts presented to the Prime Minister, is live and has been carried on until 31 October 2026. The edition is themed on Delhi and puts up thirty mementos for open bidding. Whatever the auction earns will go to the Namami Gange project, the Ministry of Culture said.

What is on offer

The thirty items break up into nine photo frames, nine mementos, and six idols, sculptures and statues. The rest of the collection holds two Delhi Metro models, a piece of sports memorabilia, a painting and a set of art and craft items. Taken together they cover artworks, objects of devotion, handcrafted pieces and institutional keepsakes.

Religious and cultural pieces

Four pieces in the collection draw on Lord Ram or on scenes from the Ramayana. One is a sculpture of the Ram Darbar. Another is a brass plaque in which Kevat ferries Ram, Sita and Lakshman across the river. A third is a painting of Saint Dada Dev, of Palam village, while the fourth is a statue of Ram Lalla carved in wood. Buddhism has its place as well, in a piece showing the Ashtamangala, the Eight Auspicious Symbols, which tradition links to the teaching of the Buddha and to his enlightenment.

Delhi's institutions on display

Several lots stand for the landmarks of the capital. A framed artwork depicts St. Stephen's College, a crystal memento shows the Old Secretariat building, and a textile artwork represents the New Parliament Building.

Pieces from public life

Objects linked to achievement and public service form another group. Among them are a close-up pencil portrait of the Prime Minister drawn by a student from Rohini, the discus of Paralympic silver medallist Yogesh Kathuniya, the gold-polished Param Vir Mati Kalash of the National Cadet Corps, and a portrait rendered on a skeletonised Bodhi leaf.

Why aspirants should note it

Gifts received by the Prime Minister are not kept by him; they are catalogued and auctioned, and the money raised is put to a public purpose. In this edition that purpose is the Namami Gange project, the government's programme for cleaning and conserving the Ganga. The edition number, the theme, the closing date and the destination of the proceeds are the four details a question is usually built on.

Exam Point of View

Hold on to the edition number, the eighth, the theme, Delhi, the number of mementos, thirty, and the closing date, 31 October 2026. The most asked detail is where the money goes: the Namami Gange project. Remember that the Ministry of Culture conducts the auction on the portal pmmementos.gov.in. Among the lots, the discus of Paralympic silver medallist Yogesh Kathuniya and the NCC's Param Vir Mati Kalash are the two most quotable items.

Practice Questions

Q1.NationalEasy

The proceeds of the PM Mementos e-auction are devoted to which project?

  1. A.Namami Gange
  2. B.Swachh Bharat Mission
  3. C.Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
  4. D.Smart Cities Mission
Show answer

Correct answer: A. Namami Gange

Explanation

The correct answer is Namami Gange. Gifts and artefacts presented to the Prime Minister are catalogued and offered for public bidding, and whatever the sale earns is placed at the service of the Namami Gange project, the programme devoted to the cleaning and conservation of the Ganga. This is stated twice in the announcement of the eighth edition, which is a sign of how central the detail is. Option B, the Swachh Bharat Mission, is a sanitation programme and is not the recipient of these proceeds. Option C is a scheme for the girl child and has no link with the auction. Option D, the Smart Cities Mission, concerns urban infrastructure and is likewise unconnected. Candidates should note the chain of facts in one line: gifts to the Prime Minister go to a public auction conducted by the Ministry of Culture, and the money raised goes to Namami Gange.

Q2.NationalMedium

Which city is the theme of the eighth edition of the PM Mementos auction?

  1. A.Varanasi
  2. B.Ahmedabad
  3. C.Delhi
  4. D.Lucknow
Show answer

Correct answer: C. Delhi

Explanation

The correct answer is Delhi. The edition puts up thirty mementos chosen to show the many dimensions of the capital, and the lots bear this out: a framed artwork of St. Stephen's College, a crystal memento of the Old Secretariat building, a textile artwork of the New Parliament Building, two Delhi Metro models, a painting of Saint Dada Dev from Palam village, and a pencil portrait of the Prime Minister drawn by a student from Rohini. Options A, B and D name cities that do not figure as the theme of this edition. The surest way to answer such an item is to look at the lots themselves, since the landmarks named in them, from the Legislative Assembly to the Metro, all belong to one city. Pair the edition number with the theme while revising, because both are asked together.

Q3.NationalHard

Whose discus, belonging to a Paralympic silver medallist, is among the lots in the PM Mementos auction?

  1. A.Sumit Antil
  2. B.Yogesh Kathuniya
  3. C.Devendra Jhajharia
  4. D.Neeraj Chopra
Show answer

Correct answer: B. Yogesh Kathuniya

Explanation

The correct answer is Yogesh Kathuniya, described in the announcement as a Paralympic silver medallist whose discus is part of the collection and stands for sporting achievement and perseverance. Option A, Sumit Antil, is a Paralympic athlete of the javelin and not the owner of the discus in this auction. Option C, Devendra Jhajharia, is also a javelin thrower with a long Paralympic record, so his name is a plausible distractor, but the item named here is a discus. Option D, Neeraj Chopra, is an Olympic javelin thrower and not a Paralympic competitor at all. The detail to carry away is the pairing of the implement with the athlete: a discus, belonging to Yogesh Kathuniya, among gifts presented to the Prime Minister and now open to public bidding, with the proceeds going to the Namami Gange project.
