Khet Bachao Abhiyan Rabi 2026: Scientists Visit Delhi Farms

Why in News

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare is running Khet Bachao Abhiyan - Rabi 2026 from 22 October to 30 November 2026, and KVK Ujwa has begun awareness programmes at 25 locations in rural Delhi, including Qazipur village on 27 October 2026.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare is holding Khet Bachao Abhiyan - Rabi 2026 across the country from 22 October to 30 November 2026 through its two departments. The campaign is meant to carry information about the newest farm technologies and about government schemes straight to farmers, through awareness programmes held village by village, and to spread better management of rabi crops.

Lab to Land in practice

The drive puts the idea of Lab to Land to work: instead of waiting for farmers to come to research stations, agricultural scientists go to the fields and share scientific techniques, research-based knowledge and practical advice that can lift farming practice and productivity. The ministry presents the campaign as a step towards developed agriculture for a developed India and towards the prosperity of farmers.

What is happening in rural Delhi

  • Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ujwa, Delhi is running special awareness programmes from 22 October to 30 November 2026
  • 25 locations have been picked in the South-West, North-West and North districts of the National Capital Territory of Delhi
  • Each team has four to five subject-matter experts, scientists, officials of various departments and innovative farmers
  • Senior scientists of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi are also taking part

The teams are trying to close the distance between agricultural research and its use in the field, by giving farmers information they can act on and nudging them towards improved practice.

The programme at Qazipur

KVK Ujwa held an awareness programme in Qazipur village on 27 October 2026. Its purpose was to sensitise farmers to conserving soil health, carrying out farm operations at the right time for the coming rabi season, using fertiliser in balanced measure and taking up natural farming. Scientists explained how soil fertility is kept up, why timing matters in field operations, and how fertiliser and other inputs should be applied scientifically and according to actual need rather than habit. Balanced application based on soil health and the efficient management of farm resources were stressed.

Advice for the rabi season

With the rabi season ahead, farmers were given details of improved high-yielding wheat varieties, suitable crop management practices and the balanced use of fertiliser. They were also told to watch mustard crops regularly, to spot the main pests and diseases at an early stage and to adopt the right management measures, so that damage is prevented and yields hold up. For an aspirant, the campaign is worth noting for its name, its dates, the Lab to Land concept it applies, and the institutions involved, from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra network down to IARI at Pusa.
