Why in News

On 23 October 2026 India's para athletes swept all three medals in the Men's Javelin Throw at the Asian Para Games and added medals in the club throw, the sprints and the long jump.

India's para athletes filled every step of the podium in the Men's Javelin Throw at the Asian Para Games, carrying away the gold, the silver and the bronze from one final. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi described the result as a proud moment for Indian para-athletics and said the throwers had raised the bar for the country.

All three javelin medals

Sumit won the gold medal in the Men's Javelin Throw. Mahendra Gurjar finished second, and his silver medal came with a Games Record. Sandip Sanjay Sargar claimed the bronze, and he too left a Games Record behind on his way to the podium. Two of the three medallists in the event therefore ended the final with a Games Record against their names, which is what the Prime Minister called a remarkable sweep.

One more medal in the javelin

The javelin gave India a fourth medal in a separate classification. Navdeep took the bronze in the Men's Javelin Throw F40/F41 event. He had finished fourth at the previous edition of these Games, so a place on the podium this time marked a clear step forward from his last appearance.

Gold and bronze in the club throw

Pranav Soorma defended his title in the Men's Club Throw F51 and set a fresh Games Record while retaining the gold. Dharambir finished third in the same event, so India held two of the three places on the club throw podium as well.

Medals on the track

Sandeep won the bronze in the Men's 100m T44 sprint. He had already taken a gold in the 400m with a world record at these Games, and the sprint bronze turned his campaign into a memorable one. Rakeshbhai Bhatt was third in the Men's 200m T37, which was his second bronze of this edition.

Silver in the long jump

Nimisha Chakkungalparambil Suresh won the silver medal in the Women's Long Jump T47. The Prime Minister said her dedication and hard work had brought Indian para athletics another proud moment.
