Why in News

On 23 October 2026 India won silver and bronze medals across archery, badminton and athletics at the Asian Para Games, including first-ever Indian medals in women's recurve doubles and in men's doubles class MD4.

Besides its golds, India collected a clutch of silver and bronze medals at the Asian Para Games on 23 October 2026, and two of them were the country's first medals ever in their events.

A first in women's recurve doubles

Bhawna Choudhary and Pooja Jatyan won the silver in women's recurve doubles archery, which the Prime Minister's Office described as India's first medal of any colour in that event at the Games. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said the achievement would encourage many young archers who are taking up the sport.

A first in men's doubles class MD4

Jehan Dorab Madan and Shubham Wadhwa finished with the bronze in men's doubles class MD4, again India's first-ever medal in that event at the Games. The Prime Minister wished the pair many more successes in the seasons to come.

Badminton silvers

Thulasimathi Murugesan won the silver in women's singles SU5, a result the Prime Minister called a proud moment for Indian badminton. Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan took the silver in women's singles SH6, improving on the bronze she had won in the previous edition of the Games.

On the track

Parmod won the silver in the men's 1500m T46, repeating the silver-medal finish he had managed in the previous edition. Ajay Kumar added a bronze in the men's 400m T64, the same event in which Sandeep Kumar won gold with a world record.

Each result drew a congratulatory message from the Prime Minister, who said the performances had brought fresh moments of pride for the country and hoped the athletes would keep pushing their limits. Two themes run through the day: medals in events where India had never stood on the podium before, and athletes who bettered or matched what they had done at the previous edition of the Games.
