RoDTEP Export Scheme Extended Up to 31 December 2026
The Department of Commerce has carried the RoDTEP export refund scheme forward to 31 December 2026, leaving the notified rates and value caps untouched.

Why in News
On 2 October 2026 the Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that the Department of Commerce had extended the RoDTEP scheme up to 31 December 2026 by Notification No. 41/2026-27 dated 30 September 2026, with existing rates and value caps unchanged.
Exporters will keep drawing their refund of built-in taxes for a further stretch. The Department of Commerce has issued Notification No. 41/2026-27 of 30 September 2026, under which the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products scheme, known by its short form RoDTEP, runs on until 31 December 2026. The announcement was put out by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on 2 October 2026.
Who may claim the benefit
Four classes of exporting units are named in the notification. Units sitting in the Domestic Tariff Area, or DTA, are the first. Holders of an Advance Authorisation, the licence that lets an exporter bring in inputs duty free against an export obligation, are the second. Units inside a Special Economic Zone form the third class, and Export Oriented Units the fourth. Shipments sent out by any of these four during the extended window attract the scheme.
What the scheme hands back
RoDTEP is a refund mechanism rather than a subsidy. It returns those central, state and local duties, taxes and levies that sit inside the cost of a finished export item and are not given back through any other channel. Indirect taxes gathered at earlier stages of the production chain and carried forward into the final good are part of what is remitted. The thinking behind it is the long-standing principle of world trade that a country should export its goods, not its taxes.
Rates are left as they are
No recalculation accompanies the extension. The rates and the value caps already notified in Appendix 4R and Appendix 4RE, in the form in which they stood on 30 September 2026, continue without change for the whole of the extended period. An exporter therefore works from the same schedule as before.
Why the government did it
The stated purpose is to keep Indian goods on an equal footing with those of rival economies in overseas markets. Since refunds under the scheme reach exporters as transferable scrips or credits against the duties they bear, certainty about the window matters as much as the rate itself, because shipment and pricing decisions are taken months ahead of the sailing date.

Exam Point of View
Fix the full form of RoDTEP, the new end date of 31 December 2026, the notification number 41/2026-27 and its date of 30 September 2026, and the department that issued it. Then the four eligible categories: DTA units, Advance Authorisation holders, SEZ units and EOUs. The two appendices carrying rates and value caps, 4R and 4RE, are a favourite one-line question, as is the idea that the scheme refunds embedded and un-rebated taxes rather than paying a subsidy.
Practice Questions
Up to which date has the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme been extended?
- A.30 September 2026
- B.31 December 2026
- C.31 March 2027
- D.30 June 2027
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 31 December 2026
Explanation
The correct answer is 31 December 2026. The Department of Commerce has carried the RoDTEP scheme forward to that date, and the benefit is available for exports made by Domestic Tariff Area units, Advance Authorisation holders, Special Economic Zone units and Export Oriented Units in the meantime. Option A, 30 September 2026, is the date of the notification itself and of the rate schedule that is being continued, not the closing date of the scheme, so it is wrong. Options C and D, 31 March 2027 and 30 June 2027, look plausible because Indian fiscal measures often end on a quarter boundary or with the financial year, but neither figure appears in the decision taken by the Department of Commerce. Aspirants should separate three dates in this item: the date the notification carries, the date on which the existing rates were frozen, and the new end date of the scheme. Only the last of these is 31 December 2026.
Which notification of the Department of Commerce extended the RoDTEP scheme?
- A.Notification No. 37/2026-27
- B.Notification No. 39/2026-27
- C.Notification No. 41/2026-27
- D.Notification No. 45/2026-27
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Notification No. 41/2026-27
Explanation
The correct answer is Notification No. 41/2026-27, which the Department of Commerce issued on 30 September 2026 to continue the RoDTEP scheme up to 31 December 2026. Option A names the notification that extended the timelines under Component II of the RELIEF intervention for exporters facing West Asia logistics disruptions, a separate measure of the same department issued on the same day, which makes it the strongest distractor here. Options B and D carry serial numbers that were never attached to this decision. Questions of this kind reward candidates who note the notification number together with its date, because a department commonly issues several notifications in one sitting and examiners pair the wrong number with the right scheme. Remember the combination: RoDTEP extension to 31 December 2026 by Notification No. 41/2026-27 of 30 September 2026.
In which appendices of the Foreign Trade Policy are the RoDTEP rates and value caps notified, which stay unchanged during the extension?
- A.Appendix 4R and Appendix 4RE
- B.Appendix 3B and Appendix 3C
- C.Appendix 2A and Appendix 2B
- D.Appendix 7A and Appendix 7B
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Appendix 4R and Appendix 4RE
Explanation
The correct answer is Appendix 4R and Appendix 4RE. The rates and the value caps listed in these two appendices, in the shape they held on 30 September 2026, continue without any change for the whole extended period, so an exporter claims the same entitlement as before. Option B, Appendix 3B and Appendix 3C, belongs to other export incentive listings and not to RoDTEP. Options C and D are invented pairings included to test recall rather than guesswork. The practical point for an aspirant is that the government extended the duration of the scheme without reopening the rate structure: no fresh calculation, no revised ceiling, only a longer window. A question may also be framed the other way round, asking what did not change when RoDTEP was extended, and the answer there is the rates and value caps of these two appendices.
