7th OPEC-India Energy Dialogue Held in New Delhi

The Seventh High-Level Meeting of the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue was held on 22 September 2026 in New Delhi. It was co-chaired by Hardeep Singh Puri, India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

What the two sides discussed

The talks centred on three themes: stability in the oil market, energy security, and the need for adequate and timely investment across the oil industry. The two sides reviewed the short term, medium term and long term outlooks for energy, and both underlined the weight India now carries in global economic expansion and in the growth of energy demand.

India's position

Hardeep Singh Puri said the relationship between India and OPEC is naturally complementary and mutually beneficial, and he thanked the Secretary General for strengthening the partnership. He noted that India, counted among the quickest growing of the large economies, will keep driving world energy demand for decades to come, and that steady conversation between producers and consumers is needed if investment is to flow, resilience is to build and supplies are to stay dependable. He also praised OPEC for working towards stability and transparency in global energy markets at a time of geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility, and called for a balanced, stable and predictable market.

What OPEC said

Haitham Al Ghais called dialogue with India a priority for OPEC, saying India's importance in the global energy landscape will only grow in the decades ahead. He pointed out that the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue is eleven years strong, having been launched in New Delhi in 2015. He described India's approach to energy challenges as balanced, realistic and pragmatic, and said many of India's energy priorities are also OPEC's priorities. He further commended the Indian government's consistent advocacy of diplomacy and dialogue for resolving large global challenges.
