UPSC Civil Services GK Questions 2026

Static general knowledge is six of the seven lines of the General Studies Paper-I syllabus in the UPSC CSE notice: History of India and the Indian National Movement; Indian and World Geography; Indian Polity and Governance; Economic and Social Development; Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change; and General Science. The Commission tests understanding rather than recall, through statements to be judged correct or incorrect, pairs to be matched and assertion-reason items, and it likes the edges of a topic: a lesser-known provision of the Constitution, a river's tributary, a species' conservation status, the mandate of a statutory body. This page holds GK24's topic-wise GK notes for UPSC, written as short facts and tables, in English and Hindi, with each note linked to the current affairs and previous-year questions on the same topic. Start with Polity and Modern History, which carry the most questions, then Geography, the Economy, Environment, Ancient and Medieval culture and Science. Read a note, solve its PYQs, take its quiz, and come back to it in your monthly revision. A candidate who knows these notes and reads the daily current affairs has covered the syllabus the notice prescribes for Paper-I.

The GDP deflator is calculated as

  1. A.(Real GDP divided by nominal GDP) multiplied by 100
  2. B.(Nominal GDP divided by real GDP) multiplied by 100
  3. C.Nominal GDP minus real GDP
  4. D.GDP divided by population
Show answer
Correct answer: B. (Nominal GDP divided by real GDP) multiplied by 100

The deflator compares what the year's output costs at this year's prices with what the same output would cost at base year prices, so nominal GDP goes on top and real GDP below, and the ratio is expressed as a percentage.

Q14026.Indian EconomyMedium

Real GDP of a country is measured at

  1. A.current prices of the year concerned
  2. B.constant prices of a base year
  3. C.factor cost of the previous year
  4. D.international dollar prices

Q14034.Environment & EcologyHard

Net primary productivity of an ecosystem is equal to

  1. A.gross primary productivity plus respiration
  2. B.gross primary productivity minus the energy used by plants in respiration
  3. C.the total sunlight falling on the ecosystem
  4. D.the biomass of all the consumers
Show answer
Correct answer: B. gross primary productivity minus the energy used by plants in respiration

The pyramid of biomass in a pond ecosystem is

  1. A.upright
  2. B.inverted
  3. C.always a rectangle
  4. D.the same as the pyramid of energy
Show answer
Correct answer: B. inverted
