Teaching GK Questions 2026

General knowledge is not a named section of any CTET paper, but part of it sits inside two subjects. As per the CTET-September 2026 bulletin, Environmental Studies in Paper I has 30 questions: 15 on content and 15 on pedagogical issues. Its content themes are Family and Friends, Food, Shelter, Water, Travel, and Things We Make and Do. In Paper II, Social Studies/Social Science has 60 questions: 40 on History, Geography and Social and Political Life, and 20 on pedagogy. Science in Paper II has 20 content questions on food, materials, the world of the living, how things work, natural phenomena and natural resources. All of these follow the NCERT syllabus. GK24's topic-wise GK notes cover geography, Indian history, Indian polity, general science, and environment and ecology, in English and Hindi. In GK24's guidance, they help you revise facts after reading the NCERT chapter, not in place of it. They do not cover Child Development and Pedagogy, the languages, Mathematics or the pedagogy questions, which together make up most of each paper. The CTET page of this section holds the GK notes GK24 marks for CTET. State TETs set their own syllabus, so check the one you plan to take before relying on this mapping.

Q861.General ScienceEasy

Which organelle is known as the suicide bag of the cell?

  1. A.Ribosome
  2. B.Lysosome
  3. C.Centrosome
  4. D.Vacuole
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Lysosome

A lysosome is a membrane-bound sac of powerful digestive enzymes that breaks down worn-out organelles and any foreign particle the cell takes in; if the cell is damaged or starving, the sacs burst and the same enzymes digest the cell itself, which is why the name suicide bag is used.

Which cell organelles have their own DNA and Ribosomes?

  1. A.Golgi body and Endoplasmic Reticulum
  2. B.Mitochondria and Plastids
  3. C.Lysosome and Golgi body
  4. D.Vacuole and Plastids
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Mitochondria and Plastids

Both carry a small circular DNA of their own and their own 70S ribosomes, so they make a part of their protein themselves and divide independently of the cell; this semi-autonomous nature is the main evidence for the view that they descend from free-living bacteria engulfed by an early cell.

Q866.General ScienceMedium

Temporary hardness of water can be removed by:

  1. A.Boiling the water
  2. B.Adding common salt
  3. C.Filtering through cloth
  4. D.Adding vinegar
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Boiling the water

Temporary hardness is caused by the dissolved bicarbonates of calcium and magnesium. On boiling, these bicarbonates decompose into insoluble carbonates, which settle out as the scale seen in a kettle, so the water that remains is soft.

Q868.General ScienceEasy

Which acid is present in curd and sour milk?

  1. A.Citric acid
  2. B.Lactic acid
  3. C.Tartaric acid
  4. D.Oxalic acid
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Lactic acid

When milk is set into curd, the bacteria Lactobacillus convert the milk sugar lactose into lactic acid, and it is this acid that gives curd its sour taste and makes the milk protein clot.

Q869.General ScienceHard

Aqua regia, which can dissolve gold, is a mixture of concentrated hydrochloric acid and concentrated nitric acid in which ratio?

  1. A.1 : 3
  2. B.3 : 1
  3. C.1 : 1
  4. D.2 : 3
Show answer
Correct answer: B. 3 : 1

Aqua regia is a freshly prepared mixture of three parts concentrated hydrochloric acid to one part concentrated nitric acid. Neither acid alone attacks gold, but together they do, because the nitric acid oxidises the metal while the chloride ions hold the gold in solution as a complex.

Q871.General ScienceEasy

The chemical name of baking soda is:

  1. A.Sodium carbonate
  2. B.Sodium hydrogen carbonate
  3. C.Sodium hydroxide
  4. D.Sodium chloride
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Sodium hydrogen carbonate

  1. A.has free electrons
  2. B.is an allotrope of carbon
  3. C.is brittle
  4. D.forms basic oxide
Show answer
Correct answer: A. has free electrons

In graphite each carbon atom is joined to only three other carbon atoms in flat hexagonal layers, so the fourth valence electron of every atom is not used in bonding and can move freely along the layer.
