State Exams GK Questions 2026

Static GK is the largest part of General Studies in every state exam, and most of it is national. Indian polity, history and the national movement, geography of India, the Indian economy and general science appear in the syllabus of UPPSC PCS and PET, BPSC and BSSC, RPSC and RSSB, MPPSC and MPESB, HPSC and HSSC, and DSSSB and Delhi Police. The level changes from exam to exam. PET sets its subjects at NCERT secondary and senior secondary level, BSSC asks matric-level science, and RPSC sets the RAS Prelims at Bachelor's degree standard. This page brings together GK24's topic-wise GK notes tagged for state exams. Each note covers one topic in English and Hindi, as short facts and tables that can be revised in one sitting, and ends with multiple-choice questions and explanations. Start with Polity, History and Geography, then move to the Economy and Science. GK24 does not have state GK sections. As guidance, use these notes for the national part and prepare your state's history, geography, culture, economy and schemes from state board textbooks, the state budget and economic survey, and the commission's past papers. After each note, take its topic quiz and mark what you got wrong.

  1. A.It is the deepest part of the ocean floor
  2. B.It is shallow, so sunlight reaches the bottom and plankton grows well
  3. C.It has the highest salinity in the ocean
  4. D.It is free from the effect of ocean currents
Show answer
Correct answer: B. It is shallow, so sunlight reaches the bottom and plankton grows well

The continental shelf is the gently sloping submerged edge of a continent, usually taken down to about two hundred metres.

Q16863.GeographyEasy

The average salinity of ocean water is about:

  1. A.15 parts per thousand
  2. B.25 parts per thousand
  3. C.35 parts per thousand
  4. D.45 parts per thousand
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 35 parts per thousand

Sodium chloride makes up most of it, with magnesium, calcium and potassium salts making up the rest. Salinity varies with evaporation, rainfall, river inflow and the melting or freezing of ice, so the figure is an average rather than a fixed value.

Q16864.GeographyMedium

The Grand Banks near Newfoundland is one of the world's richest fishing grounds because it is the meeting place of which two currents?

  1. A.Kuroshio and Oyashio
  2. B.Gulf Stream and Labrador current
  3. C.Canary and Benguela currents
  4. D.Peru and East Australian currents
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Gulf Stream and Labrador current

The warm Gulf Stream moving north-east meets the cold Labrador current coming south past Newfoundland. Nutrients carried by the cold water mix with the warmer surface layer, plankton multiplies, and huge shoals of cod once gathered there.

Q16865.GeographyEasy

Which of the following is a cold ocean current?

  1. A.Gulf Stream
  2. B.Kuroshio current
  3. C.Benguela current
  4. D.Brazil current
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Benguela current

It flows northward along the western coast of southern Africa, carrying cool water from the Southern Ocean towards the equator, and the upwelling along it makes the Namibian coast a rich fishing zone while helping to keep the Namib desert dry.

Q16867.GeographyMedium

Spring tides, the highest tides of the month, occur when:

  1. A.The sun, the earth and the moon are in a straight line
  2. B.The sun and the moon are at right angles with respect to the earth
  3. C.The moon is farthest from the earth
  4. D.The season of spring begins in the northern hemisphere
Show answer
Correct answer: A. The sun, the earth and the moon are in a straight line

Spring tides occur at new moon and at full moon, when the sun, the earth and the moon lie in a straight line, a position called syzygy.

SONAR, used to find the depth of the sea and to locate submarines, works on the principle of:

  1. A.Refraction of light waves
  2. B.Reflection of ultrasonic waves
  3. C.Dispersion of radio waves
  4. D.Interference of infrasonic waves
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Reflection of ultrasonic waves

SONAR stands for Sound Navigation and Ranging. A transmitter on the ship sends short ultrasonic pulses into the water, the pulses are reflected from the sea bed, a submarine, an iceberg or a shoal of fish, and a detector records the returning echo.

Q16877.General ScienceEasy

  2. B.Longitudinal mechanical waves
  3. C.Transverse mechanical waves only in solids
  4. D.Waves that need no medium to travel
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Longitudinal mechanical waves

In a sound wave the particles of the medium vibrate back and forth along the same line in which the wave is travelling, producing regions where they crowd together, called compressions, and regions where they spread apart, called rarefactions.

Q16879.General ScienceAsked in: NDA · 17 Nov 2019Easy

  2. B.amplitude of the sound waves.
  3. C.frequency of the sound waves.
  4. D.frequency and velocity of the sound waves.
Show answer
