Delhi Exams 2026: DSSSB and Delhi Police Constable Pattern, Syllabus, Eligibility, Dates and Preparation

Most recruitment to the Government of NCT of Delhi runs through the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB). It holds computer based exams for Group B and Group C posts in Delhi's departments, local bodies and schools, from Assistant Section Officer and Junior Engineer to Trained Graduate Teacher. The Delhi Police Constable (Executive) exam is held separately by the Staff Selection Commission. General Awareness carries 40 of 200 marks in DSSSB's one-tier general paper and 50 of 100 marks in the Delhi Police CBE. This page gives both patterns, the General Awareness syllabus, eligibility, this cycle's dates and pay, as per DSSSB's 2025-26 advertisements and SSC's 2025 notice, with GK24's daily current affairs, GK notes, quizzes and previous-year questions.

Selection process

DSSSB one-tier posts

  1. Online application on dsssbonline.nic.in in the advertisement's window. The fee is paid only through SBI e-pay. One application is allowed per post code.
  2. Computer based test under the post's scheme: One Tier (General), One Tier (Technical) or One Tier (Technical/Teaching). Multi-shift marks are normalised by the Board's formula of 11 July 2018.
  3. Draft answer keys are displayed after the exam, and objections are taken online within the time given.
  4. Merit is prepared on the written marks, subject to the minimum qualifying marks. In technical and teaching papers the minimum applies to Section-B and to the total, and both sections count for merit.
  5. Skill, typing, physical, driving or trade test where the job requires it.
  6. E-dossier. Shortlisted candidates upload their documents online, and the user department checks eligibility against its Recruitment Rules. A candidate who misses the upload window is not considered.

DSSSB two-tier posts

Grade-II (GNCTDSS)/Assistant Section Officer (post code 804/26) and Legal Assistant (801/26) follow a two-tier scheme under Advt. 01/2026. Tier-I only shortlists candidates for Tier-II, but its minimum qualifying marks still apply. ASO selection is on the combined marks of Tier-II Part-I (objective) and Part-II (descriptive). Department preferences are given at the e-dossier stage. Allocation is by merit-cum-preference, and there is no waiting panel in the combined examinations.

Delhi Police Constable (Executive)

  1. Online application on ssc.gov.in after One-Time Registration.
  2. Computer Based Examination by SSC. The minimum marks for shortlisting are 35 for UR, 30 for SC, ST, OBC and EWS, and 25 for Ex-Servicemen. About 12 times the vacancies are called, category-wise.
  3. PE&MT and Document Verification by Delhi Police, in Delhi only. The PE&MT is qualifying.
  4. Final result by SSC on CBE marks, separately for men and women and by category, for those who clear the PE&MT and DV. NCC 'C', 'B' and 'A' certificate holders get 5%, 3% and 2% of the maximum marks as bonus.
  5. Medical Examination of the provisionally selected candidates in Government hospitals in Delhi.

General Awareness syllabus and Delhi GK

DSSSB's Section-A syllabus, the same for its general, technical and teaching papers and for ASO Tier-I, tests awareness of the environment around the candidate and its application to society, current events and everyday observation. It lists these areas:

  • History
  • Polity and the Constitution
  • Sports
  • Art and Culture
  • Geography
  • Economics
  • Everyday Science and Scientific Research
  • National and international organisations and institutions

SSC's notice describes Part-A of the Delhi Police CBE as current events, everyday science, and India and its neighbouring countries, especially Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Indian Economy, General Polity, the Indian Constitution and Scientific Research. It says the questions need no special study of any discipline.

Neither DSSSB's syllabus nor SSC's notice names Delhi GK as a separate topic or gives it a share of marks. GK24 covers national GK and current affairs and has no separate Delhi GK section. As guidance, any question about Delhi would sit under the candidate's environment or current events, so read Delhi news from official sources alongside GK24.

How to prepare General Awareness for Delhi exams

This plan is GK24's guidance, not part of any notice.

  1. Know the weight. General Awareness is 40 of 200 marks in DSSSB's general paper and in ASO Tier-I and Tier-II Part-I, 20 of 200 in technical and teaching papers, and 50 of 100 in the Delhi Police CBE.
  2. Build static GK first. Read GK24's GK notes topic by topic: Polity and the Constitution, History, Geography, Economy, Everyday Science, Art and Culture, and organisations.
  3. Read current affairs daily. GK24 publishes daily current affairs in English and Hindi from official releases. Cover the 6 to 12 months before your exam, including sports, which both syllabuses name.
  4. Solve previous-year questions. DSSSB posts question banks of its online exams from 2018 to 2025 on its website. GK24's previous-year questions show how GA questions are framed.
  5. Take timed quizzes. DSSSB's 2-hour papers allow 36 seconds a question and the Delhi Police CBE 54 seconds. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 mark, so skip what you do not know.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DSSSB exam pattern?

Most DSSSB posts have a one-tier computer based test of 200 one-mark questions in 2 hours. The One Tier (General) paper has five subjects of 40 marks each: General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning Ability, Arithmetical & Numerical Ability, Hindi and English. Technical and teaching papers have a Section-A of those five subjects (20 marks each) and a 100-mark Section-B on the post's subject. Grade-II (GNCTDSS)/ASO has two tiers.

Is there negative marking in DSSSB and Delhi Police Constable exams?

Yes. DSSSB deducts 0.25 mark for each wrong answer to a one-mark question and 0.50 mark for a wrong answer to a two-mark question. The Delhi Police Constable (Executive) CBE deducts 0.25 mark for each wrong answer. Unanswered questions carry no penalty.

What are the minimum qualifying marks in DSSSB exams?

As per Advt. 01/2026 and 03/2026, the minimum qualifying marks are 40% for General and EWS, 35% for OBC (Delhi) and 30% for SC, ST and PwBD. Ex-Servicemen get 5% relaxation in their category, subject to a minimum of 30%. Actual cut-offs may be higher.

When is the DSSSB ASO (Grade-II GNCTDSS) Tier-I exam in 2026?

DSSSB's notification of 24 August 2026 schedules Tier-I for post code 804/26 from 21 September to 18 October 2026, in three shifts a day. The date of Tier-II has not been announced.

What is the age limit for Delhi Police Constable (Executive)?

For the 2025 examination the age limit was 18–25 years as on 1 July 2025. SC/ST candidates get 5 years and OBC candidates 3 years of relaxation. Wards of Delhi Police personnel can apply up to 29 years, and departmental candidates up to 40 years (43 for OBC, 45 for SC/ST).

Can OBC candidates from other states get OBC reservation in DSSSB?

No. DSSSB gives OBC reservation and age relaxation only to OBC (Delhi) candidates, as notified by the Government of NCT of Delhi. OBC candidates from outside Delhi are treated as Unreserved and must apply under the UR category.

Is Delhi GK a separate section in DSSSB or Delhi Police exams?

No. Neither DSSSB's General Awareness syllabus nor SSC's Delhi Police notice lists Delhi GK as a separate topic or gives it a share of marks. Both cover current events, History, Polity, Geography, Economy, Science and Sports. GK24 covers national GK and current affairs and has no separate Delhi GK section.
